GCW Begins Match Announcement for 2-Day Homecoming Event

Game Changer Wrestling (GCW), one of the top indie promotions in the US indie scene, made its triumphant return to live shows following the COVID shutdown with The Wrld on GCW, Part 2 in June – making their Indiana debut in the process – and then following it up with the critically acclaimed Backyard Wrestling 2 on July 4. But on the weekend of July 25 and July 26, GCW returns to their home in New Jersey for a two-night affair called simply Homecoming, that will see the company throw two nights of hard-hitting, GIF defying action from the historic Garden Pier on the world-famous Atlantic City boardwalk. The two-night event will air live on FITE.tv and on Tuesday, GCW began to reveal some early match announcements for the festivities.

Announced Matches for GCW Homecoming Night 1 (July 25)

Blake Christian vs. Alex Zayne

Two of GCW’s breakout discoveries of 2019, Blake Christian and Alex Zayne will be returning for Homecoming to add another match to their string of classics over the past year. They have a rubber match to break their 1-1 deadlock this Saturday with Synergy Wrestling but come Homecoming weekend, one will be looking to take a hefty advantage, while another will be aiming to tie the series once again. Either way, get ready for some mind-blowing action from two of the best in the indies right now.

Deathmatch: Alex Colon vs. AJ Gray

AJ Gray is another stud from the US indies who made huge strides in 2019, eventually ending Nick Gage‘s 722-day run as GCW World Champion this past December. He’s brought his aggressive physical presence to the likes of Black Label Pro, Glory Pro (where he’s the reigning Crown of Glory Champion), Beyond Wrestling, Absolute Intense Wrestling (AIW), and more while becoming an impact player in GCW to boot. While he’s definitely had some hard-fought matches in GCW so far, such as against Nick Gage and KTB, he’s heading into Deathmatch territory at Homecoming when he takes on one of GCW’s most violent veterans in Alex Colon. Colon has been a bloody warrior in GCW, winning 2019’s Tournament of Survival 4 and joining the team for their tour in Japan with FREEDOMS. Two heavy-hitters who can dish out and take a lot of abuse, this will be a jaw-dropper.

GCW World Championship: Rickey Shane Page (c) vs. Homicide

GCW World Champion Rickey Shane Page has done his share of ducking title fights, but at Homecoming he’s set to defend his title on Night 1 against an icon of the hard-hitting style that GCW is known for. Twenty-year veteran Homicide, a former Ring of Honor World Champion, returns to GCW for Homecoming looking to add another World title to his storied career.

Announced Matches for GCW Homecoming Night 2 (July 26)

Scramble: Alex Zayne vs. Myron Reed vs. Blake Christian vs. Tre Lemar vs. Jordan Oliver vs. KTB

It wouldn’t be a GCW show without a good scramble, and the one announced for Night 2 features a lot of young stars from the US indies. Alex Zayne and Blake Christian will both join the Scramble action on Sunday following their singles bout the night before. A trainee of NXT’s Johnny Gargano and Candice Larae, Tre Lamar has exploded in the Midwest, where’s also in the Blood Diamond stable alongside Jake Lander and Kobe Durst and 40 Acres with AJ Grayand PB Smooth. The 22-year old is a regular with AIW, IWA Mid South, Black Label Pro, where he’s a former BLP Tag Team Champion with Lander. He made his GCW debut last month in Indiana. Major League Wrestling (MLW) Middleweight Champion Myron Reed returns following his debut with GCW last month, as the athletic star looks to continue to shine in his rise on the US indies. Reed is also the fourth member of The Rascalz (although he didn’t join Dezmond Xavier, Zachary Wentz & Trey Miguel in IMPACT) and has had some great tag team championship tandems with the likes of AR Fox (in FireFox, AAW Tag Team Champions), Stephen Wolf  (Glory Pro United Glory Tag Team Champions), and Sugar Dunkerton (aka Pineapple Pete in AEW) in Hot Chocolate (IWA Mid-South Tag Team Champions). Jordan Oliver is also a member of the MLW roster as part of the Injustice stable with Myron Reed and is also a regular with GCW and Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW), where he’s a former 427-day CZW Wired Champion. With all that youth in the ring, it’s going to take a veteran to slow them down, in the form of former GCW World Champion KTB, who is a beast in more than name alone.

Chris Dickinson vs. Calvin Tankman

Calvin Tankman just made his own GCW debut last month, winning the Scramble at The Wrld on GCW, Part 2, but the big man has already impressed many. “Indestructible” Calvin Tankman is still in the early stages of wrestling, but the 380 lb. Tankman recently signed with MLW. A mainstay with IWA Mid South since 2016, and a former IWA Mid South Heavyweight Champion, Tankman has been a wrecking crew throughout the US indies, with the likes of Absolute Intense Wrestling (AIW), EMERGE Wrestling, and Indiana’s Paradigm Pro Wrestling and Bizarro Lucha, where he’s the current reigning BL Luchaversal Champion. Tankman is really stepping into a main event match for his second GCW match, as he faces arguably one of the faces of the franchise in “Dirty Daddy” Chris Dickinson. Dickinson has been near unstoppable in the past year, in both GCW and Beyond Wrestling, and this match-up, in the immortal words of the late Gorilla Monsoon is another case of “the irresistible force meeting the immovable object.”

Tony Deppen vs. Lee Moriarty

The last announced match so far is another huge opportunity for a rising star who made their GCW debut last month. Pittsburgh’s Lee Moriarity is one of the most exciting young prospects in the US indies right now, and the 5-year pro has been making waves with Pennsylvania’s RYSE Wrestling, as well as AIW, CHIKARA, and Indiana’s own Bizarro Lucha (Indianapolis), Paradigm Pro Wrestling (Jefferson), and many more. Last month, he defeated Tre Lemar in his first GCW match, but for his second, he’s facing a man many call “The Gatekeeper of GCW”, Tony Deppen. Deppen has been one of the US indies premier talents over the past year, with his work in GCW, Beyond Wrestling, and CHIKARA, while also appearing in his first Pro Wrestling Guerrilla Battle of Los Angeles last September. This one could easily be match of the night.
