Jun Akiyama to Transfer to DDT

Jun Akiyama

Earlier this year, the All Japan Pro Wrestling (AJPW) mainstay Jun Akiyama was announced as a guest coach and occasional wrestler for the company Dramatic Dream Team (DDT). However, according to a report by Tokyo Sports, until the end of the year, 2020 Akiyama will transfer over to being a DDT talent. This has been referred to as a rental period due to its temporary nature and will be treated as a member of the DDT roster. A press conference between DDT, AJPW, and Jun Akiyama will occur on the final DDT TV Show regarding this situation.

Jun Akiyama is a recent debut for the company. He was originally brought in for a guest coach position in DDT after his original guest coaching position for the WWE was postponed due to COVID. He was announced on the second edition of DDT TV Show as a guest coach and wrestler whenever AJPW allowed it. On the third edition, he debuted teaming with another AJPW alumni Keisuke Ishii in a tag match.

From then on, he began taking on and teaming with some of the lower on the rung DDT roster members, most notably Mizuki Watase, Hideki Okatani, and most recently Makoto Oishi. Akiyama will be teaming with Oishi and Okatani to take on ALL OUT in a kind of rematch of their match from Peter Pan 2020. This time, he will be with his stable Akiyama-Gun.

With Akiyama going to DDT for at least until the end of the year, it ensures that the stable has room to breathe. Additionally, the people in the stable can grow a little bit. It allows for more freedom that wasn’t originally given due to having to pass things through AJPW beforehand. It will be very interesting to see what this leads to as well as what will be stated at the press conference.
