Preview: IMPACT Wrestling (5/26/20)

IMPACT Wrestling returns to AXS TV on Tuesday night with the #1 Contenders Tournament for Tessa Blanchard’s IMPACT World Championship is down to its Final Four, which will decide the two finalists by the end of the night. Jessicka Havok will look for revenge on for her loss against Kimber Lee two weeks ago with a rematch, and The North decides to brave the Canadian wilderness at the Deaner Compound in Ontario, Canada to defend their IMPACT World Tag Team titles.

Cousin Jake vs. Chris Bey

Unfortunately due to COVID border issues, Cousin Jake (aka Jake Something) can’t join his Canadian “cousin” Cody Deaner for Tuesday’s World Tag Team title match, but he’s still going to be competing on Tuesday’s episode. He’s facing “The Ultimate Finesser” Chris Bey, who is quickly becoming one of the breakout stars for IMPACT in 2020. Bey has been allying with Johnny Swinger in recent weeks (including a beatdown together on Willie Mack last week), but if they can avoid any interference, Bey vs Jake could be dark horse match of the night. While Cousin Jake will be looking to make a statement in singles action, Bey is looking to build momentum in his pursuit of X-Division Champion Willie Mack.

Kimber Lee vs. Jessicka Havok

A few weeks back, indie veteran and reigning SHIMMER Champion Kimber Lee made her debut in IMPACT Wrestling with an apparent grudge to deal with in longtime indie rival Jessicka Havok. Two weeks ago, Kimber Lee defeated Havok in her IMPACT debut but used a well-hidden set of brass knuckles to finish the job. On Tuesday night, Havok will attempt to get revenge for her loss, but Kimber Lee is confident she can repeat the victory. And will Neveah make more of a presence?

IMPACT World Tag Team Championship: The North (Ethan Page & Josh Alexander) (c) vs. Cody Deaner & ???

For weeks, The North has been defending their IMPACT World Tag Team titles in Canada against some of Canada’s “best” indie talents. But now Cody Deaner, a fellow Canadian stuck in Canada due to COVID travel bans, has stepped up to challenge The North to some proper competition. With Cousin Jake stuck in the US, Cody Deaner is bringing a mystery partner he’s only referred to as “Wheels”. And while The North are under the assumption that “Wheels” refers to IMPACT referee Cameron Adamson (who is a bilateral amputee), Cody has mentioned that Adamson is not the one he’s referring to. So now The North is heading into the Great White North’s wilderness to face Cody and his partner at the Cody Compound.

IMPACT Wrestling World Championship #1 Contenders Tournament, Final Four: Ace Austin vs. Hernandez

Photo: IMPACT

A battle of styles, as the physically imposing Hernandez faces off against high-flyer and former X-Division Champion Ace Austin. Hernandez, a former 7x Tag Team Champion in IMPACT history, defeated oVe’s Madman Fulton in his first-round match-up, as he looks to add his first taste of singles gold in his history with the company. Ace Austin was a last-minute fill-in for Ken Shamrock and ended up pulling an upset victory over former World Champion Rhino to advance to the Final Four. Hernandez has a clear power and experience advantage, but IMPACT’s resident magician has plenty of tricks up his sleeve.

IMPACT Wrestling World Championship #1 Contenders Tournament, Final Four: Trey Miguel vs. Michael Elgin

Another conflict of styles, as the technical powerhouse Michael Elgin faces off against the “Fresh Prince of Mid-Air” Trey Miguel of The Rascalz. Elgin has been on a rampage in pursuit of the IMPACT World Championship and has left a trail of destruction in his wake. In his own first-round match, he destroyed Sami Callihan‘s dreams of returning to the title picture with a hard-fought win. Trey Miguel also played the role of dream killer in his own first-round match, when he defeated a recharged Rohit Raju who was looking to break out of his Desi Hit Squad curse and parlay it into new singles momentum. This tournament feels like it’s Elgin’s to lose.
