Preview: WWE NXT (5/6/20)

NXT

The time has arrived; another episode of NXT is about to hit our screens.  Additionally, the card for this particular episode is stacked.  Three big matches have been announced for Wednesday’s show and with AEW Dynamite going live, these matches will be essential in the ongoing “Wednesday Night Wars“.  Without further ado, let’s get started on this preview.

Karrion Kross & Scarlett Bourdeaux Debut

NXT

Karrion Kross and Scarlett Bordeaux will make their eagerly-anticipated debuts this week.  They are a relatively high-profile signing for NXT.  As late as just last year, Bordeaux was one of the hottest acts on Impact.  Kross, meanwhile, has been one of the bigger prospects in recent years.  A man who possesses size, agility and a solid arsenal of moves, he will do well in NXT.  That’s not overlooking the talent of Bordeaux, of course, who has all the makings of being a big star for WWE in the years to come.  The real-life couple will be a hit on NXT.  Expect an easy win for them this Wednesday.

Johnny Gargano vs Donovan Dijakovic

What is perhaps the most under-looked match this week might just prove to be the best.  Dominik Dijakovic comes face-to-face with Johnny Gargano this week.  These two have only wrestled each other at house shows previously, so this is going to be a TV first for both men.  Interestingly, Gargano won that house show match – way back in April, 2018.  Will this match have a similar outcome? Both men are in excellent form, with Gargano finally getting his big win over long-time nemesis, Tommaso Ciampa.  With a meaner character no longer concerned with entertaining the fans, Gargano might just have the determination to score another big win.  Dijakovic, of course, won’t make it easy.

NXT Women’s Championship: Charlotte Flair (c) vs Io Shirai

NXT

In what should be the main event, Charlotte defends her NXT Women’s Championship against Io Shirai.  A certain “first-time ever” match, this has the potential to be one of the all-time great women’s bouts.  Charlotte is one of the most naturally gifted performers in history, male or female.  Shirai is widely-considered to be the “best in the world” in women’s wrestling.  Pitting these two foes against one-another should surely result in an absolute spectacle of a match.  With Charlotte only recently capturing the title and a potential Rhea Ripley return looming near, it is perhaps easy to call a Charlotte victory.  However, regardless of the winner, this match is going to be excellent.  Don’t miss this one.

NXT Championship: Adam Cole (c) vs Velveteen Dream

In what is currently the billed main event of the evening, Adam Cole defends his NXT Championship against The Velveteen Dream.  Just a few short weeks ago, the Dream named Adam Cole as the “greatest NXT Champion in history”.  This, of course, angered Finn Balor – with the Prince recognizing his own reign as the greatest.  Prior to Dream’s scheduled match against Balor, Balor was taken out of action – with the match being cancelled.  With certain events going on outside the ring, there is a possibility Dream is similarly taken out of this match.  If so, what happens? Who faces Cole instead, if anybody? Perhaps a Balor return occurs.  This is, of course, speculation.  If this match goes ahead, expect an excellent showing from both Cole and Dream.  What do you think: will this match go ahead? We’ll find out this Wednesday, 6th May on USA Network.
