Preview: AEW Dynamite (5/6/20)

AEW Dynamite

It is that time again.  Another week has passed, another episode of AEW Dynamite has arrived.  This week’s show is LIVE and whereas there won’t be a crowd in attendance, just being live should help freshen the show up.  An MJF return, a Jon Moxley match and Chris Jericho returns to action.  Without further ado, let’s dive right in.

MJF Returns

First up, we have the return of the “Salt of the Earth”.  Maxwell Jacob Friedman has been “injured” as of late.  Indeed, since the start of the COVID-19 epidemic, MJF has been missing from our screens.  He admitted that he suffered a career-threatening injury; an injury which left him “on death’s door”.  A hangnail.  Now that he has recovered from this nasty injury and has made a resounding recovery, MJF has promised to return to our screens.  However, a neck injury – caused by shaving – might just keep him off our screens for another week.  Will he make an appearance on Dynamite this week? We will have to wait and see.

Cody vs Joey Janela

AEW

Joey Janela hasn’t wrestled on AEW Dynamite since March 11.  In that match, he teamed with the Private Party (Isiah Kassidy and Marq Quen) and was defeated by the Death Triangle (Pentagon Jr, Rey Fenix and PAC).  Additionally, Janela has never won a match on an episode of Dynamite.  In contrast, Cody is one of the faces of the company… and an executive.  Can Janela pull off what would be a huge upset against Cody? Unlikely.  However, this should still be an entertaining match and one not to be missed.

Jon Moxley vs Frankie Kazarian

Frankie Kazarian will square off with current AEW World Champion, Jon Moxley.  In what is an actual first time ever match, this should be a good showing.  A showcase of two worthy students of the game with much left to offer.  Kazarian has mostly been in tag action as of late – alongside SCU comrade and fellow wrestling vet, Christopher Daniels.  Moxley is, of course, the reigning champion – on a long winning streak and unlikely to lose here.  Does anyone really believe Kazarian can pull off the upset here? Expect a brawl… and a Moxley victory.

Street Fight: Broken Matt Hardy & Kenny Omega vs Le Spanish Sex Gods (Chris Jericho & Sammy Guevara)

AEW Dynamite

The billed main event of the evening sees Le Sex Gods (Chris Jericho and Sammy Guevara) squaring off with the team of Kenny Omega and “Broken” Matt Hardy.  Mark my words, this is going to be a fun match.  Mixing the experience of guys like Hardy and Jericho with the sheer talent of Omega and the youth of Guevara means this is going to be nothing short of quality pro-wrestling entertainment.  Additionally, this match is a street fight; meaning anything goes.  Who wins is anyone’s guess, as this one is too tough to call.  Will it be a bit of the bubbleh for Le Sex Gods? Or will it be a broken bottle of 17th century champagne for “Broken” Matt and Kenny Omega? Tune into AEW Dynamite this Wednesday, May 6 to find out!
