Matt Riddle To Name Replacement Partner for Tag Team Title Match

On Wednesday morning’s edition of WWE The Bump, NXT General Manager William Regal made an announcement regarding the current situation with the NXT Tag Team Championships. Much like NXT Cruiserweight Champion Jordan Devlin, one half of the NXT Tag Team Champions The Broserweights, Pete Dunne, is stuck in the United Kingdom due to travel restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. In Devlin’s case, NXT will be starting a tournament on Wednesday to crown an interim NXT Cruiserweight Champion until they can unify in a match with Devlin, but the Broserweights will still be allowed to remain champions. But Regal has announced that Dunne’s tag team partner, Matt Riddle, will have to announce a substitute partner for the duration of the travel ban and the two will defend their NXT Tag Team titles on this Wednesday’s edition of NXT against Undisputed Era’s Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish.

It’s been almost two months exactly since The Broserweights defeated O’Reilly & Fish at NXT TakeOver: Portland for the NXT Tag Team titles and in their 59 days as champions, they’ve only been able to defend them once, in a rematch on March 11, 2020, on NXT television. In the past, Riddle has teamed with the likes of Keith Lee, Tommaso Ciampa, and Dominik Dijakovic in NXT – on TV and Live Events – so he may return to his past. Prior to signing with WWE, Matt Riddle and Keith Lee briefly teamed in the indies known as The Limitless Bros, competing together in PROGRESS Wrestling and EVOLVE Wrestling.
