Preview: ICW Wrestling Experience Scotland – ‘Live In Bathgate’ (2/15/20)

At the start of November, Insane Championship Wrestling (ICW) announced that they were going to be promoting all of the Wrestling Experience Scotland shows going forward. It’s proving to be a monumental time for ICW as a company, as not only do they have their regular shows like Fight Club, but they’ve also got the GONZO brand as well as the WXS shows. The first show under the ICW banner will see the company return to the Reconnect Regal Theatre in Bathgate, a venue that has seen some tremendous wrestling in recent years, with this card set to continue that tradition.

Jack Jester vs Kieran Kelly

With his Kinky Party pal Sha Samuels currently on the sidelines due to some nagging injuries, former Tag Team Champion Jack Jester goes into ICW singles action in Bathgate as he battles Kieran Kelly. ‘The Big Ride Machine’ hasn’t always had the best of luck when he’s in Bathgate, losing to BT Gunn and Grado on the two Wrestling Experience Scotland shows held in the area. On the main ICW shows, however, Jack is a former Heavyweight Champion, having held that title for a staggering 385 days. As a result, it poses quite the challenge to Kieran Kelly, who has been on a bit of a losing streak in ICW as of late. A loss to young upstart Daz Black at the most recent GONZO event, while a fantastic match between the pair, should be considered a huge upset for ‘Shotgun’. He desperately needs to get back to winning ways in ICW if he hopes to get in the title picture.

Luke Kyro vs Jackie Polo

In Wrestling Experience Scotland, Luke Kyro is a bonafide star, with incredible performances against the likes of Stevie Boy and The Purge, the latter of which saw him team with his usual Glasgow Pro Wrestling Asylum (GPWA) partner Paul Huntly. A popular athlete in Bathgate, Kyro has recently made debuts for the likes of Pro Wrestling Innovation (PWI) and the main ICW product, losing a Square Go! qualifying match to Craig Anthony at the most recent GONZO event. While he’s a perennial fan favourite in Bathgate, the same cannot be said for Jackie Polo. ‘Just Justice’ is known to using cheating tactics in Bathgate, something that hasn’t exactly gone down well with the fans in attendance. Although he hasn’t exactly had the best win/loss record in the town, the use of these tactics is surely going to benefit Polo sooner rather than late.

Isla Dawn vs Angel Hayze

In a change to the originally scheduled match, Angel Hayze will now take on Isla Dawn in a GONZO #2 rematch, with ‘The White Witch’ stepping in to take the place of current ICW Women’s World Champion, Aivil. These two have been intertwined with one another since Fear & Loathing XII, as Isla watched on from the crowd while Angel teamed with Xia Brookside in a huge match against Viper and the reigning NXT UK Women’s Champion, Kay Lee Ray. Seeing as Dawn would then defeat Hayze at the second GONZO event to earn a future crack at the Women’s World Championship, it’s time for ‘The Young Lioness’ to gain a matter of retribution over the current NXT UK star. While a victory over the current champion would’ve been a far better check in the history books for young Angel, a victory over Isla here would still be huge for the Premier British Wrestling (PBW) Academy graduate, seeing as she’s recently been at the top of the championship contendership rankings.

Leyton Buzzard vs Jack Morris

Coming out of the 9th Annual Square Go!, two men who are desperate to get back to winning ways are Leyton Buzzard and Jack Morris. Buzzard shockingly lost his Zero-G Championship back to former champion Liam Thomson, just under two months after defeating ‘The Bad Boy’ to claim the gold, whereas Morris, alongside his Nine9 partner Dickie Divers was eliminated from the Square Go! Match to prevent them from earning a crack at the ICW Tag Team Championships. Without a doubt, this will be one of the more athletic matches on the evening, with Leyton utilising a wonderful 450 splash during his matches, while Jack is known to bust out a shooting star press on occasion. A sure-fire treat for the fans of Bathgate on Saturday evening.

The Purge (Krobar & Stevie James) vs Just Uz (BT Gunn & Stevie Boy)

In one of the biggest tag team attractions Scottish wrestling has ever seen, in this writer’s opinion at least, The Purge will battle one of the premier teams to come from the nation in the form of Just Uz. Now, regardless of what the graphic may say, Krobar and Stevie James are no longer the ICW Tag Team Champions, having lost the titles to Lou King Sharp and Krieger of The Fite Network at the Square Go! in a brutal Glasgow Street Fight. For the Bad Company duo, there’s perhaps no better way to get back to winning ways than by defeating two of Scotland’s most noteworthy performers, one of which just so happens to be their brethren in the form of BT Gunn. ‘The Oddity’ has had some issues with Sami Callihan and the rest of oVe as of late, with The Purge coming to his aid at the Square Go!, but the tables will be completely turned come Saturday. Instead, Gunn will have to rely on the help of former ICW World Heavyweight Champion, Stevie Boy. These two teams have actually met before, facing off at a Rock N Wrestle (RNW) event in June 2017, a match that saw Just Uz crowned the inaugural RNW Tag Team Champions. Will the result be any different this time around?

Grado vs Wolfgang

It’s a huge main event for Bathgate, as former IMPACT Wrestling star Grado faces one half of the current NXT UK Tag Team Champions, Wolfgang. Due to their commitments away from ICW, we don’t get to see these two in an ICW ring as much as we’d like, especially in the case of Grado. However, they were both in the Square Go! Match just under two weeks ago, with ‘The Chubby Wee Chancer’ entering dressed as Tom Brady (or Tom Grady, as some fans have called him on social media), both men coming away unsuccessful in their venture towards earning a future World Heavyweight Championship opportunity. All story aspects aside, there’s no denying this is a mammoth main event to kick off the new era for Wrestling Experience Scotland.
