Stardom’s Leo Onozaki Announces Retirement

Leo Onozaki

To add to the recent string of retirement’s in Stardom, and Joshi in general, it has been announced that Stardom’s Leo Onozaki will retire following the February 16th Shinkiba show.  According to Stardom’s twitter, Onozaki’s decision came due to lingering injuries.

Onozaki’s final match is a mini Jungle Assault Nation (JAN) reunion as she teams with former faction member Saya Iida to take on former leader Jungle Kyona and frequent tag partner Ruaka.  It should provide a nice send-off for Onozaki to wrestle her former allies.

The 25-year-old Onozaki debuted in 2018 in a losing effort to Natsuko Tora and would mostly wrestle fellow rookies Hanan, Nao Yamaguchi, and Ruaka while occasionally teaming with the Stardom Army.  Onozaki would become a part of JAN following the first Stardom Draft and would mostly be there to take pins.  Once JAN was forced to disband Onozaki would be drafted by Queen’s Quest to once again fulfill the role of pin eater.

It became clear in recent months that Onozaki was taking a back seat to newer debutants like Itsuki Hoshino and Saya Kamitani as they have a higher potential ceiling than Onozaki.  Leo Onozaki was always a good addition to tag team matches and will always be remembered for being a part of the loveable and popular JAN faction who captured the hearts of the fans in their brief run.
