The 2020 Royal Rumble has now officially come and gone and we know the two competitors that will be going to WrestleMania to compete for a championship. Those two participants are Charlotte Flair, who walked out as the winner of the women’s Royal Rumble match after entering at number 17, and Drew McIntyre, who not only eliminated Brock Lesnar after entering at number 16 but managed to outlast the other 29 superstars to win the 33rd men’s Royal Rumble match.

We knew that someday this would come. We just didn’t know how soon. “The Queen” has officially managed to add yet another accolade to her already incredible career. Flair entered at number 17 and got into the face of NXT’s EST, Bianca Belair. Belair had already eliminated a record eight women prior to Flair’s entree, so this was no easy feat for Charlotte. She eliminated Belair, among others, before it coming down to her and Shayna Baszler to decide the winner of the 2020 women’s Royal Rumble. It seemed Baszler had it locked down but was hooked by Flair’s legs and shockingly eliminated after eliminating seven women in her short time. This is the 10-time champion’s first Royal Rumble victory. With Charlotte’s victory and her father Ric Flair’s in 1992, they are the first parent/child duo to win a Royal Rumble.

Somehow, someway, Drew McIntyre has managed the impossible. The men’s Royal Rumble match began rather slowly. When we say slow, we mean it was dominated heavily by Brock Lesnar. Lesnar managed to eliminate the first 13 men all by himself before Ricochet made his way to the ring. He managed to survive, leaving Lesnar to be winded. Then it was time for McIntyre at number 16. McIntyre capitalized when Ricochet kicked Lesnar in the groin, leading him to be weakened. A Claymore kick would eliminate the WWE Champion and McIntyre made his intentions quite none after the fact by staring him down. The rest of the match went on and it came down to a final four of Randy Orton, Roman Reigns, the returning Edge, and “The Scottish Psychopath”.
Edge would toss out Randy Orton, Reigns would manage to cut down Edge, and it was then down to Reigns and McIntyre. In many people’s minds, it was Reigns who they viewed as the “favorite”, but that did not affect McIntyre. He would catch Reigns with a Claymore kick and throw him over the top rope to win the Royal Rumble match, ending the event by pointing at the sign and his career officially coming full circle.
A truly memorable Royal Rumble event has ended and the “Road to WrestleMania” is officially underway. Buckle up, it should be a fun ride.
