Alex Shelley To Make GCW Debut Over WrestleMania Week

Alex Shelley

WrestleMania week is always a big deal for the independent wrestling scene, and this year is already proving to be no different. Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) have revealed that former Motor City Machine Guns member Alex Shelley will be making his debut for the company at Joey Janela’s Spring Break 4. That event takes place on April 3rd from the Cuban Club in Ybor City, with Shelley now joining The Great Muta and Will Ospreay in the announced lineup.

A former Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) Junior Heavyweight Champion and IMPACT Wrestling X Division Champion, the Michigan native is perhaps best known for his extensive background as a tag team wrestler. With successful teams being formed alongside both Chris Sabin (in The Motor City Machine Guns) and KUSHIDA (in The Time Splitters),  championship wins would follow for promotions including IMPACT, Ring of Honor (ROH), and New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW).

More recently, Shelley made his proper WWE debut (he had previously been used as a jobber against Simon Dean on an episode of Sunday Night Heat). Here, he reunited with his old Time Splitters partner as they entered the 2020 NXT Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, but unfortunately, they would be eliminated in the opening round at the hands of The Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson and James Drake). Despite the quarterfinal loss, Shelley remains grateful for the opportunity provided by WWE.

In terms of his GCW debut, there’s a multitude of opponents that could put on extraordinary matches with Alex Shelley. Standout performers such as Alex Zayne and Blake Christian immediately spring to mind, however, that’s not to say Shelley couldn’t also put in a great showing with a bigger guy, such as Nick Gage or Chris Dickinson. Either way, you’re guaranteed a decent match – it’s Alex Shelley, after all.
