Nick Aldis Challenges Great Muta to a NWA Title Match

For a large portion of the rebooted National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) under Billy Corgan, Nick Aldis (formerly Magnus in TNA/IMPACT Wrestling) has been their World Champion. He’s had two lengthy reigns as the NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion – his first lasted 266-days, defeating Tim Storm for the title in December of 2017 before losing to Cody Rhodes at All In in September of 2018. He regained the title from Cody at the NWA 70th Anniversary Show that October and now he’s held it over 400+ days for his second reign, all the while defending it around the world to the likes of Marty Scurll, Colt Cabana, Shane Strickland (now Isaias “Swerve” Scott in NXT), Jimmy Havoc, Brian Cage, and more. On Saturday night at the WrestleCade SuperShow, Aldis arrived to challenge The Great Muta for a shot at his title.

While an absolute legend in Japan, where he’s a former 4x IWGP Heavyweight Champion with NJPW and a 3x All Japan Triple Crown Champion, Muta is also a former NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion, having won the title in 1993 from fellow New Japan star Masa Chono. He lost it 48 days later to Barry Windham at WCW Super Brawl III. Nick Aldis had previously stated during a Twitter Q & A that Muta was one of the former NWA World Champions that he wanted to face in a World title match.

While there’s been no word on when and where, it’s probably not going to happen until 2020, as Aldis is slated to defend the title against “Cowboy” James Storm at NWA’s next PPV, Into The Fire, on December 14.
