AEW Announces Special “Bash at the Beach” Fan Extravaganza for Miami Show, Jericho Cruise

When Chris Jericho announced the return of his wildly popular cruise for 2020, there was little surprise as to which wrestling promotion he’d look to partner with for the return to the Bahamas. Not signed to any company at the time of the first cruise in 2018, Jericho partnered with Ring of Honor for the Sea of Honor Tournament won by Flip Gordon, and IMPACT Wrestling for a series of one-time-only matches for last year’s edition. But now, signed with All Elite Wrestling and not to mention, their ‘Le Champion’, Jericho is bringing his new crew on board for Chris Jericho’s Rock ‘n’ Wrestling Rager at Sea, Part Deux: Second Wave.

Today, AEW made it official, announcing that, much like how FITE TV broadcasted the Sea of Honor Tournament last year, that the matches aboard this year’s cruise would be filmed for public consumption. Specifically, for the January 22nd episode of Dynamite. But prior to that, AEW will be broadcasting live on January 15th, from Miami as the first of a two-episode pairing. It’s all part of a nine-day wrestling extravaganza that is appropriately being billed “Bash at the Beach,” a former WCW entity that Cody trademarked earlier this year.

Bash at the Beach, an event created by Dusty Rhodes, was a yearly PPV for World Championship Wrestling that ran from 1994 – 2000. While short-lived, the PPV was considered one of WCW’s marquee events and set the stage for one of the biggest moments in wrestling history, when Hulk Hogan was revealed as nWo‘s third-man. Bash was also where Hogan won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship in his in-ring debut against Ric Flair, and the event where he made his final appearance for WCW. Continuing to be the case in 2020, Bash at the Beach was always held in either California or Florida, states whose weather was well reflected in the PPV theme.

While the Bash at the Beach catalog of shows can be found on the WWE Network, in 2004-05, the trademark expired allowing Cody to purchase it for use with AEW. Other former WCW trademarks Cody owns include Battlebowl, Bunkhouse Stampede and the Match Beyond, which was referenced recently on AEW Dynamite and was used to describe the War Games matches for WCW.
