Top 10 Joshi Matches Of The Month (October 2019)

Recommended Joshi Matches

The Joshi wrestling scene (Japanese Women’s Wrestling) is a deep scene full of insanely talented performers and every month there are dozens of fantastic matches from promotions from Stardom to Pure-J and everywhere in between.  This month was a fantastic month for Joshi with a big battle for tenth place and Syuri, fresh off her comeback, making an impression.

Important Note (Due to some matches not airing as of the time of writing some presumably great matches can’t be ranked)

10. Kaori Yoneyama vs Suzu Suzuki

This was a fun match of Yoneyama-ism.  Some fun comedy spots were mixed in with fast-paced wrestling between Yone and Suzuki.  At just nine minutes this was a very enjoyable match.

9. Mitsuru Konno & Sayaka vs Yuna Mizumori & Tokiko Kirihara

A really good match that took place on the mats of Ichigaya Chocolate Square.  The story of the match was Kirihara getting over by showing fire and fighting spirit against her opponents who had already established themselves on par with a powerhouse like Mizumori.  Filled with hard-hitting action and got Kirihara over this one deserves its spot here.

8. Kagetsu vs Arisa Hoshiki

World Champions Wars

Built on their GP match well with the two continuing the story of Hoshiki’s strikes against Kagetsu’s all-around game.  Kagetsu really shined in this one as her selling was brilliant and her strikes were on par with Hoshiki’s.  While it got a tad repetitive down the stretch it was still a very good match for the most part.

7. Aja Kong & Yuu vs Syuri & Meiko Satomura

Anytime Meiko Satomura meets Aja Kong in a match it is must-see.  This match was no different as Yuu and Syuri were able to match the intensity of the two Joshi legends.  Hard-hitting pro wrestling at it’s finest with Yuu and Kong bringing the chops and Syuri and Satomura bringing some stiff kicks.

6. Yumiko Hotta & Hanako Nakamori vs Saori Anou & Riko Kawabata

Veteran team vs a rookie and a star is not a new match formula but it always produces good matches.  Hotta and Nakamori took great pleasure in working over Kawabata who sold well and showed great fire.  Anou stood up to the veterans and would give her team hope before being neutralized and leaving Kawabata to be pinned.  A great match formula and a perfect execution of the style as Hotta and Nakamori played their role to perfection while Anou looked great fending them off almost single-handedly.  Kawabata has proven to be one of the top Joshi newbies as she’s easily up there with Suzu Suzuki, the Marvelous rookies etc.

5. Sakura Hirota & Chikayo Nagashima vs KAORU & Tomoko Watanabe

A comedy match that let Sakura Hirota show off all of her talents.  Hirota is one of the best comedy wrestlers we have ever seen and she was at her brilliant best in this match.  With the others playing into her antics and working around the comedy this one was very enjoyable and is sure to have you laughing.

4. Takumi Iroha & Yuu vs ASUKA & Syuri

As always Takumi does her best work in her home promotion of Marvelous.  Her exchanges here with Syuri were amazing as those two kicked the hell out of each other and even late in the match her exchanges with ASUKA were fantastic.  Yuu also had great exchanges with both including some hard chop exchanges.  All four personalities got to shine and the in-ring action was great this deserves its high placement

3. Twelve Woman Tag Match

This was absurdly brilliant.  Stardom Mask Fiesta is an alternate universe where things like this can happen.  From the exhibition matches leading into the tag and Kagetsu selling her back for 15 minutes after one suplex, this was comedy gold and was one of the most enjoyable matches this month.

2. Mei Suruga & Mei Hochizuki vs Yoshiko & Hiroyo Matsumoto

This was a fantastic tag match between two very different teams.  Yoshiko and Hiroyo used their power to their advantage while MeiMei used their size and agility to pull off very impressive pinning combos and double team moves to take down their bigger, stronger opponents.  Mei Suruga especially looked fantastic in this one and made herself look like an equal to both of her opponents.

1. Chihiro Hashimoto vs Sareee

Not on the level of their second match from earlier this year but a great match nonetheless.  It had all the hits from fiery strike exchanges to Sareee trying her best to murder Hashimoto all the way to Hashimoto taking heads off.  These two have exceptional chemistry and delivered another top quality matchup.
