#AndNEW: EVOLVE Champion Crowned at EVOLVE 139

EVOLVE Champion

EVOLVE is one of the major partners of the WWE’s developmental brand. This brand is responsible for the likes of Drew Gulak, Kassius Ohno (Chris Hero), Daniel Bryan, Matt Riddle and many more of the very best technical workers on the east coast wrestling scene. Saturday night was EVOLVE 139 and it was streamed live on WWN LIVE. On this show, we had some no holds barred action and we had a major title match for the between EVOLVE Champion Austin Theory and Josh Briggs.

At EVOLVE 139, Josh Briggs’ story of legitimate dominance has been seen on the roster since his debut at EVOLVE 104. In his over two years on the EVOLVE roster, Briggs has faced the likes of Ohno, AR Fox, Darby Allin, Riddle and more. He’s also been involved in multiple stories for the EVOLVE Championship, facing off against Theory in the past. This includes losing three encounters to Theory, even if one was in a triple threat match. It was slated at EVOLVE 139 that Briggs would get one more shot for the championship. By the end of the match, we had a brand new EVOLVE Champion.  Josh Briggs would defeat recently-signed-to-NXT and now-former EVOLVE Champion Austin Theory.

After the match, photos were posted online from his manager Stokely Hathaway with Briggs celebrating in the most intimidating way possible. Hathaway has been waiting for a major win ever since the departure of his former client, Timothy Thatcher. Briggs, on the other hand, celebrates this as his third championship in his career, being a mainstay in promotions like EVOLVE, Northeast Wrestling, Chaotic Wrestling, and Beyond Wrestling.

Josh Briggs is also slated to defend the championship at EVOLVE 140 against JD Drake and Anthony Henry in a triple threat match. Drake, a former WWN Live Champion, has been part of a feud with former teammate Henry. Henry has been waiting for a world title opportunity for the longest time, since his debut in 2017. Congratulations to the new EVOLVE Champion, Josh Briggs!
