As the Edinburgh-based Discovery Wrestling (DW) celebrated five years in the business with their Year Five show on Sunday night, history was made as hometown hero Joe Hendry ended the 750-day reign of Joe Coffey as the Y Division Championship, capturing the title in an epic main event.

If you’ve been following British wrestling over the last few years, then you’ll be aware of the meteoric rise Joe Hendry has been on. Whether he was singing and dancing his way down the ramp at huge events for Insane Championship Wrestling (ICW), qualifying for the 2018 Commonwealth Games, or appearing on our television screens for IMPACT Wrestling, Ring of Honor (ROH), and World of Sport Wrestling (WOS), The Prestigious One has accomplished so much in his relatively short career thus far. Winning the Y Division Championship in his hometown was just the icing on the cake.

Joe Coffey had held the championship since dethroning Lewis Girvan at the third year anniversary show back in September 2017. His reign has gone on to become the longest in history, surpassing Lewis’ reign of 666 days by a country mile. Throughout his reign with the strap, The Iron King had some sensational encounters with the likes of Christopher Saynt, Andy Wild, and Jordan Devlin, but now he finds himself without his coveted championship as a new era begins for Discovery Wrestling.
