Former WOW Champion Santana Garrett Signs With WWE

As broken by Casey Michael and Squared Circle Sirens, WWE has signed indie superstar Santana Garrett to a developmental deal. She’s expected to join the September class of new recruits at the WWE Performance Center alongside El Hijo del Fantasma, Austin Theory (who recently appeared at NXT TakeOver: Toronto II), Brazilian Olympic wrestler Rita Reis and Chilean indie wrestler Jessy.

Santana Garrett is a 10-year veteran, starting out in Florida with Coastal Championship Wrestling (CCW) in 2009. A 2x CCW Ladies Champion, by 2012 she began working with Shine Wrestling and SHIMMER.

In 2013, she joined both TNA/IMPACT Wrestling (as Brittani) and Women of Wrestling (WOW), and continued to dominate the US indies – she won the Shine Championship and NWA World Women’s Championship in 2015. She also headed to Japan starting in 2015, working tours with Stardom and Sendai Girls. During her two year stint with Stardom, she captured the Wonder of Stardom Championship for 174-days.

She appeared for NXT in an enhancement role in three matches in 2016, before being selected for the inaugural Mae Young Classic in 2017 – she was knocked out in the first round by Piper Niven (Viper). Later that October, she returned to take part in a #1 Contenders Battle Royal for the NXT Women’s Championship. In 2017, she appeared for IMPACT Wrestling on a few occasions, as well as the newly rebooted Major League Wrestling (MLW).

She returned to WOW in 2015 and captured the WOW Championship, holding it for 742-days until losing it to Tessa Blanchard this past season. This April, she competed against Allysin Kay for the vacant NWA World’s Women Championship at The Crockett Cup in a losing effort. Widely considered one of the best all-around women’s competitors in the US indies, Santana Garrett is finally heading to NXT after years of speculation.
