Preview: AAA TripleMania XXVII (8/3/19)

Arguably the most popular lucha promotion in Mexico, AAA Lucha Libre, has it’s biggest event of the year and the card for it has been released with 7 solid matches mixed with star-studded performers from other promotions and a former UFC Heavyweight Champion making his debut on the big show, headlined by a main event of historic proportions. TripleMania has always had a variety of entertainment for their marquee show and this year does not disappoint as All Elite Wrestling, IMPACT Wrestling, and UFC will be in the house, and to top it off, we may very well see the end of a much legendary career after the show.  Here’s more below.

Mascara Contra Cabellera (Mask vs. Hair Match): Blue Demon Jr. vs. Dr. Wagner Jr.

In a match between two legends who have close to a combined 3000 matches between each other and close to 70 years of experience between the two, the legendary Dr. Wagner Jr. will face off with the legendary Blue Demon Jr. in what could be one or the others last match of his career. For some time now, the two have had a bitter rivalry so bad that near every time they get their hands on each other, it’s a blood bath. The two men are competing for more than a match as they’re competing for their legacies. At last week’s TripleMania conference, both men got personal with each other to a boiling point where Blue Demon used his cane to hit Galeno Del Mal on the side of his neck and made contact with Hijo De Dr. Wagner Jr.‘s esophagus with the cane at one point, resulting in AAA Executives Konnan and Dorian Roldan. More recently, however, both men have made the claim that if either of them loses, it will be the end of their career. Could we really see the end of a career here? We’ll see.

The Elite (Kenny Omega & The Young Bucks) vs. The Lucha Bros. (Pentagon Jr. & Fenix) & Laredo Kid

Last month, we saw the return of one of the most powerful factions in the world, The Elite – Kenny Omega, and The Young Bucks – battle The Lucha Bros. (Pentagon Jr. & Fenix), along with Laredo Kid in what was an instant classic trios match at AEW Fyter Fest. Now the pair of trios go at it again in a battle of brand supremacy as AAA versus AEW will take place at TripleMania. The story here is not so much the ongoing battle between The Bucks and The Lucha Bros., but the wild cards here in Laredo Kid and Kenny Omega. Laredo Kid who has more recently been on a phenomenal run in AAA since his return to the company, and then Kenny Omega, dubbed the best wrestler in the world by many making his debut in Mexico. The real winners in a match like this will be the AAA audience when they get to see a once in a lifetime performer like Omega compete at the promotions biggest event. How will the audience receive the match and The Elite? And who will be able to win and call their promotion the best?

Psycho Clown, Cody Rhodes & Cain Velasquez vs. Taurus, Texano Jr. and A Surprise Partner

Los Mercenarios have devasted and ran rough shot all over AAA for many months, with them destroying LA Parkas son at one point without him having a real chance to fight back. Psycho Clown, who many believe is the Ace of AAA Lucha Libre, has had enough, and he brought in some major reinforcements. Cain Velasquez, and Cody Rhodes. Cain Velasquez, for those who do not know, is the former UFC Heavyweight Champion. He defeated Brock Lesnar for the UFC Heavyweight Title in a very decisive victory at UFC 121 knocking out Brock Lesnar for the win. It not even arguable that for someone to be able to do that to a once in a lifetime athlete like Brock is someone to keep an eye on. Cody, just off of a brutal match with Darby Allin at AEW Fyter is still fresh of a historic match with his brother Dustin Rhodes at AEW Double Or Nothing. Cody comes back to AAA to hopefully get revenge on Taurus who wound up spearing an injured Cody at Rey De Reyes earlier this year. And while Psycho Clowns team seems like a no brainer for the win here, there is still the question of who will their opponents choose to join the match. There are many names out there that could easily change the tide of this match, with rumored names such as LA Park, Killer Kross, or someone else. One thing is for sure, this match is going to be history making.

Reina De Reinas Championship, TLC Match: Lady Shani vs. Tessa Blanchard vs. Taya Valkyrie vs. Faby Apache vs. Keyra vs. Chik Tormenta vs. La Hiedra

Keyra, who recently just won the title from Lady Shani at Verano De Escandalo, has her biggest title defense to date and probably of her career as she defends her title against six extremely talented opponents who will do so much to win the title, that a wrestling match wasn’t enough for them. AAA has upped the ante here in what could be the match of the night as the talents and wit of each lady is put to the test. How will Keyra come out of this match? Will she be able to retain the title? If she does, could she right away be considered the best luchadora on the planet? or will we see Taya regain the title she made history with when she was champ for close to 1000 days during one of her reigns as the Reina De Reinas champ, or, could we see the “Undeniable” Tessa Blanchard walk away as the champion?

TripleMania Cup: La Parka, Pagano, OGT’s, Puma King, Aerostar, Drago & More

In the second annual TripleMania Cup match, a match some can compare to the Andre The Giant Memorial battle royal, the TripleMania Cup will be up for grabs as some of the featured stars have already been mentioned, there are many more competitors who will take the stage to have the opportunity to be called the winner of the TripleMania Cup.

Hijo Del Vikingo, Mysteziz Jr., & Golden Magic vs. Mocho Cota Jr., Carta Bravia Jr., & Tito Santana vs. Pimpinela Escarlata, Maximo & Mamba

Technicos, Rudos, and Exoticos oh my! that’s the theme of the match as a variety of trios teams go at it to simply showcase their talents. There’s not much backstory here but you need to know is that this match should be one to showcase El Hijo Del Vikingo who has had a significant presence on the AAA roster and is a human highlight reel performing moves never before seen. Pimpinela Escarlata is a bundle of charisma salsa dancing to the ring as usual and looking for someone to kiss, like Maximo who does it in the ring. It’ll be interesting to see what each team has up their sleeve in an effort to wow the crowd on August 3rd.

AAA Mixed Tag Team Championship: Nino Hamburguesa & Big Mami vs. Sammy Guevara & Scarlett Bordeaux vs. Lady Maravilla & Villano III Jr. vs. Australian Suicide & Vanilla

In what is expected to open up the big show, a 4-way mixed tag match for the mixed tag team championship is sure to be an exciting one and possibly a dramatic one. For months and months, there has been some tension in the air between Nino Hamburguesa and Big Mami as the homewrecker, Lady Maravilla has tried seducing Nino Hamburguesa with food, and love. This has caused major problems for Nino and Big Mami as she had to issue him an ultimatum between her and Lady Maravilla. At the moment Nino is still Big Mami but what will happen at TripleMania however? will we see the Nino leave Big Mami for Lady Maravilla? Or will Lady Maravilla show her scandalous ways and find hers and Villano’s way to the mix tag team titles? How will the other two teams come into play? Stay tuned to TripleMania for what’s expected to be an action and entertainment-packed show.
