Preview: AAW – Never Say Die (6/28/19)

AAW Never Say Die

Two of the championships in AAW Pro will be decided at AAW Never Say Die 2019 on 115 Bourbon Street in Chicago. It’s been a long time coming for Trey Miguel getting a title shot in AAW Pro but will he make the most of the opportunity against the undefeated AAW Heritage champion? The women’s division will be getting a shot of adrenaline from rising independent sensation Kris Statlander against the gothic Priscilla Kelly. The tag team championship match has some major show-stopping potential and Sami Callihan will be defending the AAW Heavyweight championship against an unknown opponent so let’s break down the full card on June 28.

Eddie Kingston and Curt Stallion vs FireFox (“Hot Fire” Myron Reed and AR Fox)

The WRSTLING faction in AAW has gone through some major changes in 2019 but it appears as though Curt Stallion will be the next breakthrough talent now that Jeff Cobb and Trevor Lee have made their departures from the faction and AAW Pro. “The Mad King” is such an impressive ringleader that he became the AAW tag team champion last year with David Starr and now looks to take Stallion to superstardom. AR Fox and Myron Reed have gelled so well since becoming a tag team months ago because “Hot Fire” looks up to AR Fox and compliments his super athletic ring style all too well. A tag team title shot should go to the winners and FireFox have champions written all over them.
Prediction: FireFox wins.

“The Alien” Kris Statlander vs Priscilla Kelly

Kris Statlander has a serious future ahead of her after only two years in pro wrestling, she keeps getting better with every match and she has a very innovative move-set to go with her impressive stamina. Joey Janela experienced the best from the Pat Buck protege in BEYOND Wrestling where Statlander exploded with a 450 Splash. Both females are specialists in inter-gender wrestling but they must have their sights on AAW women’s champion, Jessicka Havoc, to advance up the card in AAW. Priscilla Kelly is a former SHINE Nova champion, she knows how to get ultra aggressive but Statlander may be on another level on this night.

AAW Heritage Championship: Jake Something (C) vs “The Fresh Prince Of Mid-Air” Trey Miguel

Trey Miguel has steadily risen through the ranks in AAW from the opening match to becoming a name on Impact Wrestling weekly and it’s paid off finally with a title opportunity. The chances of Miguel walking away with the gold are about split because Something doesn’t seem to be losing any time soon. When Jimmy Jacobs got his first shot at the AAW Heritage championship last month, Jake Something left with the title and that’s a big deal pinning a former AAW Heavyweight champion. This would be the perfect win for Trey Miguel, holding down the upper mid-card spot as one of the best aerialists to offer but Jake Something may use his size advantage to retain.
Prediction: Jake Something retains AAW Heritage championship.

AAW Tag Team Championships: LAX (C) (Santana and Ortiz) vs The Besties In The World (Davey Vega and Matt Fitchett) vs The Rascalz (Dezmond Xavier and Zachary Wentz)

The Rascalz lost their cool after losing to The Besties In The World at AAW Bad Times At The Blue Genie in a moment of rare frustration. It was an inside cradle loss but nevertheless, it has added to The Rascalz’ losing streak in AAW and it’s reached its boiling point with all three teams involved for the titles. Vega and Fitchett have really lost much of their former popularity by using many heel tactics and losing Scarlett Bordeaux in their corner. The theme music doesn’t get much more fun than when The Besties make their entrance but it’s going to take more than singing and dancing to get the job done against LAX. This being a Three-Way should benefit the champions with the other two teams fighting it out because Santana recovering from an injury and being forced to miss the last AAW event. This is tough to call with all three teams always being in the title mix but perhaps it’s time for The Rascalz to take their claim as one of the worlds best teams by winning the titles back.
Prediction: The Rascalz retains the AAW tag team championships.

Loser Leaves AAW, Anything Goes: Jimmy Jacobs vs Mance Warner

“The Zombie Princess” cut a scathing promo on Mance Warner leading to this match backstage, saying that Warner is nothing but the flavor of the month and that there is no respect between them at all. Jacobs has been at the very top of AAW before. That’s what makes independent wrestling in America so great, icons of the past can mix it up with the best of today and see who really has bragging rights. This is surely going to be a brawl around Bourbon Street and weapons could be the game-changer. Warner is the new prototype for a hardcore wrestler today, able to take insane amounts of punishment and keep coming back for more with a Southern drawl to go with the jeans and wife beater package. Jacobs has new, fresh avenues in the future and other dream matches to take place so his time in AAW Pro has come to an end if Ol’ Mancer has his way.
Prediction: Mance Warner ends the AAW Pro career of Jimmy Jacobs.
