Preview: CMLL Homenaje a Dos Leyendas 2019 (3/15/19)

Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre presents their second biggest show of the year, Homenaje a Dos Leyendas 2019. The main show of this historic tour will be on Friday and a tag team Lucha de Apuestas is the main event. CMLL‘s Homenaje a Dos Leyendas 2019 is a show were two historic figures are honor in Arena Mexico. This year, the two stars to be honor are Blue Demon Sr. and, as always, Salvador Lutteroth.

Lutteroth is a pillar of the promotion. He’s the founding father, dating back to the early 1900s. His family basically started wrestling in Mexico City and were responsible for the legacy that is CMLL – EMLL in the early days. Lutteroth is always honored at Homenaje a Dos Leyendas.

Blue Demon Sr. is the novel inductee. Part of the big three (Mil Mascaras, El Santo and Him), Demon has one of the most iconic masks in wrestling, with his iconic blue flashing alongside its silver demon design. He started as a rudo, but his technical ability made fans appreciate his work. When Black Shadow, his tag team partner, was unmasked, he quickly joined the técnico side. Demon was the main rival of El Santo. The latter wouldn’t have such a legendary career if it wasn’t for the almost equally popular rival, Blue Demon. Both wrestlers starred in movies and even participated in 10 movies together. The biggest loses of El Santo came against “Blue”. In his career, Demon won the masks of Rayo de Jalisco, El Matemático, Barbaro Galindo & Espanto II.

The matches for the card have some story to it, but its missing big stars like Rush (against Bandido in Ring of Honor’s 17 Anniversary), L.A. Park, and Mistico.

Hair vs. Hair: Angel de Oro & Niebla Roja vs. Los Ingobernables (El Terrible & Bestia del Ring)

This match is not the biggest, but it has some heat going. Niebla Roja & Angel de Oro are brothers and both have lost their masks in their still youthful career. Against them, stands part of Los Ingobernables. El Terrible and Bestia del Ring have veteran genius and want to end a bad streak against the brothers. While Niebla Roja has been able to stand as a solid wrestler, he hasn’t lived up to expectations. While Angel de Oro last match want’s to avenge last year’s loss to Cuatrero when he was unmasked. The younger team has a lot to lose.

CMLL World Trios Championship: Los Guerreros Laguneros (Euforia, Gran Guerrero & Ultimo Guerrero) (c) vs. Caristico, Dragon Lee & Volador Jr.

This match could be the show stealer of the night. Los Guerreros Laguneros, commanded by Ultimo Guerrero is a well-oiled machine and knows all the tricks in the back. On the other side, CMLL’s best highflyers go for the gold. Seeing Dragon Lee back at the top is a great sight. Plus, teaming with his fellow supernovas will be a great spectacle.

Los Nuevos Dinamitas (Cuatrero, Forastero & Sanson) vs. Barbaro Cavernario, Gilbert el Boricua (El Mesias) & Negro Casas

Interesting match and could surprise us. Los Nuevos Dinamitas are the present and future of CMLL. They were impressive in Aniversario 85 and on Friday, they look to decimate veterans Gilbert el Boricua (Mil Muertes or El Mesias) and the legendary Negro Casas. But, one of CMLL’s brightest stars stands in their way. Barbaro Cavernario is rising quickly in the ranks of the company. His unique look and unmatched ability have fans raving about him. Last year was the best year of his career, this year looks to have the same recipe.

Diamante Azul, Soberano Jr. & Titan vs. Ephesto, Mephisto & Templario

This trios match works only for the young guys. Diamante Azul is finally off the main event scene and will team with promising stars Soberano Jr. and Titan. Against them are Los Hijos del Infierno (Sons of Hell) and Templario. Such a team is hard to watch in long trios matches. Expect Soberano and Titan to go crazy here.
