SPOILER: UK Star Makes NXT UK Debut at Liverpool Tapings

NXT UK Debuts

The big news out of today’s first day of tapings for NXT UK in Liverpool, England was the announcement of the first NXT UK TakeOver: Blackpool in January of 2019, but there was another feel-good story out of the tapings. UK indie star Primate made his debut for the NXT UK brand, in a tag team with “Wild Boar” Mike Hitchman, in a match against The Grizzled Young Vets (Zack Gibson & James Drake).

Primate, who wrestled under his real name Jason Melrose, had previously retired earlier this year following a bad break of his jaw. Originally, doctors had advised Primate to retire from the ring, as any blow to the area could ruin his jaw forever. An early star with Defiant Wrestling (since they were WCPW), Primate has also worked for Main Event Wrestling (MEW) as well as appearances for PROGRESS, Scotland’s Insane Championship Wrestling (ICW), and many more. He’s a former 2x MEW Heavyweight Champion, 2x Defiant Hardcore Champion, and Defiant Tag Team Champion (with Jimmy Havoc). Primate, who had been working as Defiant’s on-screen General Manager since his retirement, announced his return to the ring earlier this month at Defiant’s Refuse To Lose PPV.
