The Story So Far: 205 Live (10/24/18)

As 205 Live heads into its one hundredth episode, the main event of the show, Mustafa Ali versus Hideo Itami in a Falls Count Anywhere Match. This honestly has a chance to be the 205 Live Match of the Year. Both men are high level performers, and Ali has been very vocal online about his desire to build the brand, meaning he will work very hard in the spotlight here. Not to mention the no disqualification match he had with Buddy Murphy earlier in the year, which was fantastic, showing us what he can do in a match like that. Itami has more than demonstrated his abilities as a performer, sadly most of those demonstrations have not come in a WWE ring. Nonetheless, this one will be a dandy, and a blow off to their previous matches, when Ali lost the first bout when Itami capitalized on his injury, and the second ended in a double countout after Ali hit a 450 splash on the apron. Here, Ali will give Itami his comeuppance, and win the feud.

Also on the docket for this week is Mike Kanellis versus Lince Dorado, after Kanellis attacked Dorado in the middle of a match two weeks ago. Mike, alongside his wife Maria, will make a welcome change of pace to the brand. Their act works, and while not a main event gimmick, it will freshen up the talent on the brand. Look for Kanellis to get the win here, and to move on to Kalisto in the weeks to come.

Last week, Tony Nese won a Fatal Five match, rolling up Cedric Alexander for the pin, right when Alexander was seconds away from scoring the win for himself. When discussing the match, the commentators were careful to not say it was a Number One Contender’s match, but instead talked about how the match had title implications and the like. Nese beat Alexander one on one the previous week, after Alexander had only one loss in 2018, so Nese is clearly positioned as the next challenger, but the current champion, Buddy Murphy, has been presented as Nese’s friend throughout the summer and into the fall, so look for that story to develop in the coming weeks.

Also in the Fatal Five Way match last week were TJP and Gran Metalik, who are currently embroiled in a feud over the masks that the Lucha House Party wear. Look for some promos this week to finally set up their blow off match in the coming weeks.

Finally, the last participant in last week’s five person contest was Lio Rush. Rush, who has been presented so strongly since he debuted earlier this year, currently has nothing lined up for him. No doubt some angle will be set up this week to prepare his next feud, but it is ridiculous that someone who should be being groomed as the top heel on the brand does not have an obvious direction going forward.
