The XFL is right around the corner, and the league just signed its’ first quarterback. According to XFL commissioner Oliver Luck, the newly-formed football league has agreed to terms with Landry Jones. Jones spent a handful of seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers and last saw the NFL field in 2017.

Landry Jones Signs With XFL

While we know Jones will be playing in the XFL, we don’t which team will call him their quarterback. The XFL has yet to release their team names, although there are rumors that the league will release the names before the end of August. Considering they’re starting to sign players, it’s only a matter of time before the team names get released.

Landry Jones originally made his NFL debut with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Drafted in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft, Jones started his career as Ben Roethlisberger‘s backup quarterback. He never wavered from this duty and made five starts (19 appearances) while filling in for a hobbled Roethlisberger. During his time on the field, Jones completed 63.9% of his passes for 1,310 yards, eight touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He saw the most playtime in 2016 when he completed 53 of his 86 passes for 558 yards, four touchdowns, and two interceptions. He made two starts for Roethlisberger but appeared in a grand total of eight games.

Jones has spent some time bouncing around the NFL since parting ways with the Pittsburgh Steelers. While he never made it into a game, Jones spent some time with Jacksonville in 2018 while Blake Bortles battled an injury. He was released after less than a month with the team. He also made a brief cameo with the Oakland Raiders in the offseason but couldn’t stick there either. Hopefully, a chance to star in the XFL will help shine light onto his NFL future.
