The fantasy football season is officially in its final stretch. With the trade deadline passed in the majority of leagues, the only way to improve your roster is through smart waiver claims. No matter how good your roster is, you’ll need to make at least one or two moves on the waiver wire to win your championship. With that in mind, the New England Patriots and Dallas Cowboys defenses should be good fantasy football week 12 defenses available on the waiver wire.

Fantasy Football: New England Patriots, Dallas Cowboys Highlight Week 12 Fantasy Football Defenses
New England Patriots
Thanks to a Week 11 bye, the New England Patriots defense is unowned in roughly half of NFL.com fantasy leagues. If you happen to play in one of those leagues, make sure you put in a claim for the unit. While they had a rough game against the Titans in Week 10, the Patriots defense should put up good production in the coming weeks.
In Week 12, the Patriots take on a directionless New York Jets offense. New York has been one of the worst teams in recent weeks, averaging just 10.75 points over their last four games while turning the ball over 10 times. New England’s defense should feast on this unit.
Additionally, the Patriots defense looks good as a long-term play. While they still have the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Minnesota Vikings on their schedule, they also have two easy matchups in the Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills. They play the Bills on championship weekend, and that has the potential to be a high-scoring game for the defense. Make sure to grab the Patriots defense if they’re available in your league.
Dallas Cowboys
Surprisingly enough, the Dallas Cowboys offense is owned in just 22% of NFL.com fantasy leagues. While the defense isn’t elite, it’s capable of giving you a strong fantasy outing, especially against a bad offense. Dallas faces off against the Washington Redskins in Week 12, and that’s good news for the Cowboys.
The Washington Redskins are a bad offense. Washington’s offense has struggled to move the ball consistently all season but has been especially ravaged by injury over the past few weeks. They’ve lost the majority of their offensive line and lost quarterback Alex Smith for the season. Colt McCoy will start in his place, and he isn’t exactly an inspiring option for Washington. Look for Dallas to rack up the sacks and maybe get a turnover or two against the backup quarterback and his shoddy offensive line.
Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars are currently unowned in half of NFL.com fantasy leagues after a two-month rough stretch. However, the talented unit finally got on the right track starting midway through their Week 10 loss to the Indianapolis Colts. They then added to that success by putting together a complete game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. While they may not recapture their 2017 form, this should still be a good defense moving forward, especially against the right matchup.
The Jaguars have the right matchup in Week 12. Jacksonville faces off against a Bills offense which could be starting an injured Josh Allen or Matt Barkley. Either way, this offense has been one of the worst in the league and Jacksonville should be able to dominate this matchup. Look for multiple sacks and turnovers to complement minimal points. Jacksonville has a legit shot at being the best defense in Week 12, make sure to get them if they’re available.
