Speculation is beginning to rise as a Justin Jefferson trade rumor has surfaced in a latest proposal that connects the Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings. According to Alex Kay of Bleacher Report, he put together five trade proposals, including involving Jefferson, especially in the wake of the Myles Garrett deal. It’s a quiet time at this point in the NFL offseason, and all 32 teams are preparing for mandatory minicamp workouts this month. Nobody should anticipate trades to happen until probably right before the start of the 2026 season.
Not only was the Garretts ‘ contract one of the biggest storylines, but the AJ Brown trade was another eventful timeline for the league, who finally joined the New England Patriots. Speaking of wide receivers, there could be one more deal, which Kay believes could happen in the future. However, Jefferson’s contract is too pricy for any team to take on, especially since it will account for 15% of the Vikings’ salary cap.
The team trading the superstar would do them worse financially unless they restructure his contract. Following an abysmal 2025 campaign from Minnesota, the WR still put up solid numbers, hauling in 84 receptions for 1,048 receiving yards and two touchdowns. He’s too elite for the Vikings to move on easily without an astronomical deal that’s greater than what the Browns received from the Rams this offseason for Garrett.

Justin Jefferson Trade: Bills, Vikings Linked in Rumor
However, it would be fun to see the WR move to a legitimate contender if the Vikings can’t pull it together. The team will have a quarterback competition between new free agent signee Kyler Murray and former first-round pick JJ McCarthy. It won’t matter to the superstar wideout who is under as the leader for this offense as long as they’re in the winning column.
If the Vikings wind up missing back-to-back postseason opportunities, the WR or the team overall could move on. He’d want to join a contender. It wouldn’t make sense financially if the team is still rebuilding if it doesn’t work out. It doesn’t mean the Vikings will trade the WR, but it’s something to keep in mind.
Bills Make Sense for Justin Jefferson?
Of course, after trading for DJ Moore this offseason, the Buffalo Bills are back in serious business. Last season, the team struggled with adequate pass-game, which has been an issue since they traded away Stefon Diggs a few years ago. The Bills tried to get Keon Coleman to be the alpha of this offense, but Khalil Shakir is currently outpacing him. While it looks bright for QB Josh Allen, don’t be surprised if the team decides to bet all of their chips for a jackpot acquisition like Jefferson.
He’d immediately put Allen on notice as one of the better elite quarterbacks. Although he’s arguably a top 5 pocket passer, there’s no doubt that he’ll be in the top ranks if the Bills grab the superstar wideout. Even with Coleman and Moore, the elite receiver joining the corps would probably be one of the best offenses since the Tom Brady-Randy Moss era. This is something exciting to keep an eye on as the season goes on in the league.
Trade Sooner than Expected?
There’s no anticipation of a deal coming together anytime soon, but if the Vikings struggle, don’t be surprised if Jefferson wants to explore other options. The former first-round pick out of the 2020 NFL Draft is too talented, and if he has to go somewhere else, like Garrett, to win a ring, he will. Other teams like the Chiefs, Chargers and Jaguars could be interested in the future for the WR. All of them have highly reliable starting quarterbacks in Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert and Trevor Lawrence, so expect one of these lucky pocket-passers to receive a high-stakes weapon like the Vikings superstar.
