3 Running Backs the Patriots Could Sign After Latest Injury

1. Gus Edwards

Gus Edwards is probably the best of the free agent running backs and is an ideal fit for the Patriots if Terrell Jennings misses significant time. While Henderson finally showed signs of life in Week 10, he’s never going to be a downhill, physical runner. Henderson excels in space and beating defenders with his speed and agility, which makes him a threat in the open field. However, at 5′-10″ and 202 pounds, he’s not built to be a traditional short-yardage back.

This is where Gus Edwards comes in. During his time with the Ravens, the former undrafted free agent established himself as one of the league’s better battering rams. New England has used Jennings in a similar role this year, and Edwards is probably the closest fit available in free agency. While he had a rough year with the Chargers last year, New England doesn’t have too many other options at this point in the season.
