Chris Godwin Injury Update: WR’s Status Revealed For Buccaneers-Eagles

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers lost wide receiver Mike Evans to injury, but they might mitigate his loss with the arrival of Chris Godwin. Signed to a massive extension in the offseason, the former third-round pick missed the first three games of the season while recovering from his season-ending ankle injury in 2024.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Chris Godwin is expected to play and “should be good to go” for Week 3’s much-anticipated matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. While this isn’t an official confirmation of his game-time status, Rapoport’s tweet means Godwin will suit up, barring a last-second setback.

Chris Godwin Injury Update: Buccaneers WR Likely To Play Against Eagles

Godwin’s arrival comes at the perfect time for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, as the team will be without star wide receiver Mike Evans for the next few weeks. Following a strong start to the season, the former first-round pick and probable Hall of Famer suffered a hamstring injury that will likely sideline him for about four weeks.

Joining Godwin on the field will be rookie first-round pick Emeka Egbuka. The Ohio State product has been nothing short of phenomenal for this team, recording 14 receptions for 181 yards and three touchdowns on 21 targets while making multiple big plays in high-leverage situations. Without him, Tampa Bay would probably not be 3-0 as they enter Week 4.

Were it not for his injury, Chris Godwin could have had the best year of his career in 2024. Thriving in a return to the slot, the one-time Pro Bowler finished the 2024 season with 50 receptions for 576 yards and five touchdowns in just seven games. While the Buccaneers made it to the playoffs in 2024, they lost in the Wild Card round to the Washington Commanders.
