2023 Quarterback Rankings – Dynasty Fantasy Football

2023 Dynasty Quarterback Rankings

Superflex formats have taken the dynasty community by storm, and are now the norm. Long gone are the days where managers could stream the 14th best quarterback (shout out to a young Andy Dalton) and be okay in 1QB leagues. While some beginners may need more tips, more savvy managers are just looking for rankings, tiers and ways to squeeze value out of the market. With that in mind, who’s primed for a breakout in 2023 and who should be sold?

2023 Quarterback Rankings – Dynasty Fantasy Football

Tier One – League Winners

  • Patrick Mahomes
  • Josh Allen
  • Jalen Hurts

After Jalen Hurts signed his huge contract, he became one of the safer commodities in fantasy football. He might be the best real life quarterback from his class, and his rushing ability is elite. Having Mahomes feels like having Tom Brady in 2006, he’s going to be great for forever. Finally, Allen has been top five in points per game going back three years. A roster with one or two of these guys is able to compete every year.

Tier Two – True Difference Makers

  • Justin Herbert
  • Trevor Lawrence
  • Lamar Jackson
  • Joe Burrow

Each of these players are closer to the tier above them than the one below them. Herbert is only a year removed from finishing as the number two quarterback in total points. He battled injuries in 2022, as did his receivers, and still put together a top ten season. That feels like his floor at this point. Trevor Lawrence showed that he is as good of a prospect as we all thought. Now he has Calvin Ridley, all of his pass catchers from last year and has one of the easiest paths to success this year as possible.

The Lamar Jackson contract saga is finally over, and the NFL and Baltimore Ravens are both better for it. If Jackson was missing games because of the contract dispute, he is criminally under rated. If his knee, ankle and digestive tract continue to be issues his fall from grace could be swift. Admittedly, Burrow would be higher if he had a higher rushing floor. But his five rushing touchdowns in 2022 and 36 passing touchdowns were not a fluke, and he’ll continue to be in the QB5-12 range for the next ten years.

Tier Three – Upside, Injuries and Strange Vibes

  • Justin Fields
  • Kyler Murray
  • Deshaun Watson
  • Tua Tagavailoa
  • Anthony Richardson
  • Daniel Jones
  • Kenny Pickett

Fields and Murray could easily be a tier up, except for some key concerns. Murray is a small, mobile quarterback coming off of an ACL tear who’s work ethic is under constant scrutiny. Fields just had the Bears build around him for the first time, so this is a make or break season. The smart money is he takes the leap to the elite tier, but there is a chance he flames out of the 2023 dynasty quarterback rankings. All in all, Watson could be higher but even with off-field issues aside, he looked ugly last year. When Jacoby Brissett runs the offense better, it’s a red flag. Tua is one concussion away from being out of the league, so risk averse people beware.

A 26 year old QB just had a top ten season throwing to Isaiah Hodgins, Richie James and the ghost of Darius Slayton. Now the Giants added Darren Waller, the Biletnikoff winner Jalin Hyatt and bolstered their offensive line. Anthony Richardson landed in a perfect situation, and was already Last Word on Sports number one QB this class. For the Pickett explanation, year two quarterbacks see an improvement in almost every statistical category, as do year two wide receivers *cough George Pickens cough*. If Pickett is the dude in Pittsburgh, he’s a high end QB2 low end QB1 for years to come.

Tier Four – Viable Starters, Old Dudes and Rookies in the Gaunlet

  • Dak Prescott
  • Jared Goff
  • Kirk Cousins
  • Geno Smith
  • Trey Lance
  • Bryce Young
  • C.J. Stroud
  • Aaron Rodgers
  • Jordan Love
  • Russell Wilson

This tier is a big one, because the difference between QB 14 and QB 24 in 2023 dynasty quarterback rankings isn’t too big. For contenders, the older guys on this list should provide immediate production for a couple years (Cousins, Prescott, Rodgers). Teams that need some time, gambling on unproven guys like Lance, Young and Stroud could pay off big, or disappear like Young behind his offensive line. The best bets in this whole group are Jared Goff and Geno Smith who quietly have job security and all the weapons in the world.

Tier Five – One Year Away from the XFL or Tier Four

  • Desmond Ridder
  • The Titans QBs
  • Sam Howell
  • Matt Stafford
  • Derek Carr
  • Jimmy Garappolo
  • Baker Mayfield
  • Mac Jones

Need a third quarterback for bye weeks? Want a lottery ticket that could turn into a ten dollar bill? The jackpot is millions, but if a manager is lucky Mac Jones could be a low end QB2 for three years! Ridder and Howell could certainly make the jump, but if draft capital is any indicator their teams will be shopping for replacements soon. These players bottom out the 2023 dynasty quarterback rankings for a reason.
