The Los Angeles Chargers have traded defensive back/nickel corner Desmond King to the Tennessee Titans. The Chargers will be getting a sixth round pick in return. King has been with the Chargers his entire career up to this point since getting drafted in 2017.

King came into the year with his usual spot of nickel corner contested by the new arrival of Chris Harris. Initially he ended up spending time rotating in and out of the safety position, but after Harris went to injured reserve temporarily, he went back to his old spot. However, he’d expressed dissatisfaction with his lack of playing time before, and was ultimately a healthy scratch this past Sunday. So far in 2020, he’d gotten 24 combined tackles and one sack in six games. King should be a good addition to the Titans secondary, which has been shaky so far this season.

King played with the Iowa Hawkeyes from 2013 to 2016, going All-American twice – First-Team in 2015 and Second-Team in 2016. He was drafted by the Chargers in 2017 in the fifth round. King quickly found his way into a rotational role and had a strong rookie year with 76 combined tackles, four sacks, five pass deflections, and one interception returned for a 90-yard pick-six.

He further improved in 2018, stacking up 62 combined tackles, three interceptions (which included another touchdown), 10 pass deflections, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries. He went First-Team All-Pro for his work, and also made Second-Team for his work as a punt returner. 2019 was somewhat quieter as he had no interceptions and fewer tackles, but he still racked up 2.5 sacks and forced another fumble. He also returned a punt for a 68-yard touchdown.

So far in his career, King has racked up 189 combined tackles (153 solo), 6.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and four recoveries, four interceptions (with two touchdowns), and 17 pass deflections.
