Week 5 Stream Team: Daniel Jones, Justin Jackson, and More

Here's the Week 5 Stream Team featuring Daniel Jones and others, after another week ending with more injuries to high-end players.
Daniel Jones

Week 4 brought us another one filled with injuries to high-end players. From Austin Ekeler to Nick Chubb, this leaves us with a few extra options in terms of Week 5 stream team options. Each week this column will analyze a player at each position rostered in 50 percent of Yahoo leagues or less. This group of players is basically a dream stream team. For reference, the threshold used for Wins and Losses in this article will be if the quarterbacks can score 15 plus points, such as Ryan Fitzpatrick, who will look to continue the “Fitzmagic” going this week against the Seahawks reeling defense, and if the rest can score 10 plus PPR points. Here is the stream team for Week 5.

Week 5 Stream Team

Quarterback – Daniel Jones(NYG – 34%) @ DAL

I know. It’s been brutal so far. Not only has Daniel Jones not been a good fantasy quarterback so far, but he’s also been really bad in real life as well. He’s had a rough schedule to this point having had to face the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Chicago Bears, the San Francisco 49ers, and the Los Angeles Rams so far, but he’s also looked worse than I expected he would. Luckily for Jones, the schedule gets much easier and that starts this week against the Dallas Cowboys.

This is a game in which Daniel Jones should be able to thrive. The Cowboys are playing at the fastest pace in the NFL so far and should be able to turn this into a carnival. Both teams have terrible defenses and the game is in a dome. Game script projects for Jones and the Giants to be chasing points as well. All of this combined should bode well for Jones as a fantasy option this week.

Honorable Mentions – Gardner Minshew (JAX – 50%) @ HOU, Teddy Bridgewater (CAR – 47%) @ ATL

Running Back – Justin Jackson (LAC – 37%) @ NO

Let’s not get it twisted, Jackson was extremely good in 2019. He was PFF’s second-ranked RB last year in his limited time. He was tied for third in yards after contact per attempt (4.2). He also ranked tied for fifth in missed tackles forced per attempt (0.28). The man showed he can play a bit. He’s been banged up to this point which has allowed teammate Joshua Kelley to show out a bit, but he’s back now. Lead running back Austin Ekeler went down with an injury as well so it’s down to Kelley and Jackson. I’m expecting this to be a committee with Kelley probably seeing a little extra work but that’s no guarantee. This isn’t necessarily a great matchup, but chasing the volume here.

Honorable Mentions – D’Ernest Johnson (CLE – 44%) v IND, Damien Harris (NE – 49%) v DEN

Wide Receiver – Laviska Shenault Jr. (JAX – 31%) @ HOU

Shenault has hit double-digit PPR points now in three of his first four games. The Jaguars are clearly lacking receiving weapons after D.J. Chark and it looks like they are making it a point to get the ball in Shenault’s hands. It would be nice if the Jacksonville Jaguars would give him the rushing aspect he saw in the first couple weeks but even still, he’s seen six targets the past two weeks, turning those into five receptions in each. He’s seen at least five touches in every game so far and has shown to be a playmaker. This week is a juicy matchup against a bad Houston Texans defense, in a dome, in a game where they will likely be trailing and chasing points.

Honorable Mentions – Golden Tate (NYG – 33%) @ DAL, Zach Pascal (IND – 5%) @ CLE

Tight End – Mo Alie-Cox (IND – 39%) @ CLE

It looks like another rough week from the tight end group down in this range. We’ll keep trying to pick on the Cleveland Browns here. They have a bad group of linebackers and safeties. Alie-Cox has been producing the past three weeks with 8.30, 14, and 19.10 PPR points. There were some discouraging signs last week after the return of Trey Burton. Alie-Cox only saw two targets and saw a dip in his snap count as well. Down in this range of tight ends, we are hoping for a touchdown. Alie-Cox is a massive human being and a huge threat for a touchdown on a weekly basis, especially in a plus matchup like this one.

Honorable Mentions – Eric Ebron (PIT – 44%) v PHI, Greg Olsen (SEA – 25%) v MIN
