With the large amount of games on tonight’s NHL schedule, it might be hard to know where to start. We at the Last Word on Hockey have helped narrow your focus to our best bets. This round of NHL Predictions will help condense the slate into three best bets and one prop bet of the night.
NHL Predictions
Philadelphia Flyers vs Detroit Red Wings
Head-to-Head: Flyers 1-1 Red Wings
TV: Bally Sports Detroit; NBC Sports Philadelphia; ESPN+
Our first game of NHL predictions has the Philadelphia Flyers battling the Detroit Red Wings. The two clubs split the season series in two vastly different games. Samuel Ersson is the expected starter with Carter Hart on a leave of absence. However, always check social media before locking a daily fantasy starter. The Flyers have lost three straight games and defence has been the issue. Travis Konecny leads the team in goals with 22 and Travis Sanheim is tops in assists with 23.
Alex Lyon is the confirmed starter for the Red Wings, who have won three of the last five games. Detroit currently holds the final wild card spot in the Eastern Conference over the New York Islanders and New Jersey Devils at this time. Dylan Larkin is one goal away from reaching the 20-goal mark for the Red Wings. Detroit knows it’ll need to get points if it wants to keep the chasing pack at bay.
The Flyers are still trying to work through some things, but the Wings pick up the win.
Prediction: Red Wings win 4-2.
New York Islanders vs Montreal Canadiens
Head-to-Head: Islanders 0-1 Canadiens
TV: MSGSN; TSN2; RDS; ESPN+
Our featured game of NHL predictions has Patrick Roy returning home to face the Montreal Canadiens. This time Roy is the new head coach for the Islanders, who are 1-1 in the mercurial coach’s reign. The Isles are trying to find a way to get themselves back into a wild card spot. Brock Nelson leads the team in goals and Noah Dobson is leading in assists with 42. Semyon Varlamov is the confirmed starter for the Islanders.
Montreal will go with Sam Montembeault as the confirmed starter for the club. The Habs have lost three straight games and the defence has been a major problem. Montreal has given up at least four goals a game in the last three defeats. Cole Caufield had his five-game goal-scoring streak stopped last time out, but still leads the club with 16.
It’s going to be a very emotional game, but Roy walks out with the win for Isles.
Prediction: Islanders win 4-1.
Boston Bruins vs Ottawa Senators
Head-to-Head: Bruins 0-0 Senators
TV: NESN; TSN5; RDS2
Our final game of NHL predictions has the Boston Bruins meeting the Ottawa Senators for the first time this season. Boston’s winning streak was stopped last time out against the Carolina Hurricanes. Linus Ullmark is the expected starter for the Bruins. David Pastrnak leads in both goals (30) and assists (37) for the Bruins. The team is top 10 in goals for, goals allowed, power play and penalty kill.
Ottawa is expected to go with Joonas Korpisalo in the crease for this game. The Sens have wins in three of the last five, including victories over the Flyers and the Canadiens. Brady Tkachuk is one goal away from 20 this season and Tim Stutzle has 34 assists. Ottawa is in the 20s in goals allowed, penalty kill and the power play.
Boston may be feeling on the back of a back-to-back, but should get the win.
Prediction: Bruins win 5-2.
