NHL Rumours: Detroit Red Wings

Welcome to another edition of NHL Rumours! Today’s focus will be on the Detroit Red Wings. They had an interesting weekend game this last weekend with a divisional rival the Ottawa Senators. In that game a controversial hit by Mathieu Joseph and Parker Kelly sent Dylan Larkin down to the ice unconscious. As of the moment he has been placed in injury reserve. Early reports have been in Larkin’s favor so his return can be sooner than expected. Also, David Perron will likely miss six games due to a suspension for his actions after the hit that injured his captain Larkin.

Rumours: David Pagnotta from The Fourth Period discusses the Red Wings having trade talks and Berggren is believed to be involved.

This set of NHL Rumours swirls around the trade talk in Detroit. It’s not a surprise that Yzerman would be looking to deal Jonatan Berggren. A second round draft selection in the 2018 NHL entry draft by Ken Holland. Also, one of the three players called up to the Red Wings to on Monday. He has had a journey getting to where he is now, but there’s no doubting he has a lot of skill and will have a good NHL career. At the end of last season it looked like Berggren had made a strong case to be full time on the NHL roster. Yzerman then brought in a lot of new faces in free agency. This unfortunately blocked Berggren’s path to the main roster.

In Grand Rapids, Berggren is at just under a point per game pace. During his small stints in the NHL he has five points including the goal he scored in last nights game against the Dallas Stars. There is good reason to think he may be wanting to get a fresh start at a new club and a rebuilding or team looking to grab good young players may be willing to take a swing at him. The Anaheim Ducks or even the Edmonton Oilers could be a good fit. The Oilers General Manager was the man who drafted him. The Red Wings are most likely willing to package him with someone else for an upgrade on defense. Additionally, they could be looking for a new goalie. Lyon has been good in his minimal action he’s seen. Reimer and Husso have been okay at best.
