Svechnikov injury

Carolina Hurricanes Andrei Svechnikov Out with Upper-Body Injury

When it rains it pours, and it’s been rainy season in Carolina lately. Following their morning skate in Ottawa on December 12, Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind’Amour announced that power forward Andrei Svechnikov would be out for an indefinite amount of time with an upper-body injury.

Andrei Svechnikov Suffers Upper Body Injury

Andrei Svechnikov’s injury luck has been bad as of late. He missed the end of last season and the beginning of this one due to an ACL injury. Now, following an MRI it appears that Svechnikov will be missing more time due to an upper-body injury. The injury appears to have come from Svechnikov taking a cross-check from the Winnipeg Jets Logan Stanley in their last matchup.

While Svechnikov hasn’t been lighting it up in the goal-scoring department, he has 10 assists (with one goal) this season in 16 games. Over his career, he has 113 goals and 162 assists and has been a big piece of Carolina’s core. While he has been an offensive driver for Carolina, and more recently really established himself as a playmaker, he is still searching for a breakout goal-scoring year. The injury bug has made it tough for him lately. He missed the last two games already with this upper-body injury.

What This Means Moving Forward

With Svechnikov out, Carolina will see Brendan Lemieux stay in the lineup. Carolina has been searching for some sort of spark and offensive chemistry so the lines have been anything but consistent. It sounds like Stefan Noesen may be finding his way up to the top line with Sebastian Aho and Seth Jarvis but that is subject to change. If Carolina can get back to finding their game, they could weather the storm left by Svechnikov’s absence. But even with Svechnikov, Carolina may need to be on the lookout for some offensive help. Now without him, it might be even more essential. Hopefully, Svechnikov can make a speedy and full recovery and get back to finding a rhythm.
