Carter Hart Made the News As He is Taking a Leave of Absence

In news today the Philadelphia Flyers General Manager Daniel Briere announced that Carter Hart is taking a leave of absence from the team. Briere made the statement today, but few details were included. The statement said “Carter Hart has requested and been granted an indefinite leave of absence citing personal reasons. The club will have no further comment at this time.” It is clear that Hart needs to take some time away from the game, but at this time, no indication of why.

The Philadelphia Flyers Goalies Carter Hart Requests Leave

Hart was a Philadelphia Flyer second-round draft pick back in 2016. He made his NHL debut in 2018-19, playing six years for the Flyers, appearing in 227 contests. Over that time he has amassed a 96-93-29 record with the club. It is interesting, that on the year, Hart has matched his career save percentage of .906%. Also, in 2023-24 to this point, he has put up a GAA of 2.80. Furthermore, he is putting up decent goaltender metrics as well, include a 2.1 goals saved above average. Given his solid play, clearly there is an issue weighing on the young man for him to need to step away.

What Does This News Mean for the Flyers

The news for Carter Hart comes during a decent stretch for himself and the Flyers on the ice. Hart is 6-3-2 in his last 11 decisions. Meanwhile, the Flyers other goalie Samuel Ersson has been quite reliable as well. He had a 12-3-3 stretch at one point this year. As a result of their goalies’ decent play, the Flyers sit in second place in the Metropolitan Division thus far.

For Briere and the rest of the Flyers, this remains business as usual. Additionally, the Flyers called up Cal Petersen to fill in during Hart’s absence. He had been playing with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the AHL. There was no hint of a timetable for the Carter Hart news.
