Jonathan Toews Retirement Update
Rumour: The Athletic’s Mark Lazerus gave an update on the Blackhawks captain’s future in the sport. Lazerus said that Toews will get opinions from his family and friends before making a decision. Toews said that he’ll also “talk to himself” as well before deciding if he wants to go forward with his hockey career.

Chicago’s future Hall of Famer has been dealing with a myriad of health problems the last few seasons. Toews has dealt with Chronic Immune Response Syndrome and long COVID. Both of those health problems haven’t been easy for him. The veteran has missed plenty of time the last two seasons with him only playing in 71 games last season and 51 this year.
Impact of Jonathan Toews Retirement Talk
Toews said that he’ll only come back if he’s fully committed to playing hockey. He was quick to remind the media that he never said anything about retirement directly. However, he did acknowledge the struggle of getting ready for a season.
Chicago has one more home game before its season mercifully comes to an end. There could be a chance that it’ll be Toews’ last home game before he retires. The Blackhawks may honour Toews before the game, but it’s still unknown on if he’ll come back.
