After giving it thought, Patrick Kane waived his no-movement clause and accepted a trade. The Chicago Blackhawks have traded the star winger to the New York Rangers. In return, Chicago will receive a 2023 second round pick. Kane is a pending unrestricted free agent at the season’s end. Rather than lose him for nothing potentially this summer, he was able to waive and accept a trade as the Hawks undergo a rebuild.

It is hard to imagine Patrick Kane playing in another team’s jersey, but here it is. The long-time Blackhawks winger was monumental in the team’s dynasty run. Kane was a special player helping capture three Stanley Cups. A Patrick Kane trade is huge for both sides. Chicago is headed for painful years, and the Rangers are getting a major boost for his services.

How Kane Impacts His New Team

Now that the Patrick Kane trade has occurred, how does it impact his new club? Kane is in the midst of one of his worst years as a professional, but in the end, it is still Kane. Over the course of his career, he has surpassed the century-point mark twice but finished with 92 last season. Kane is known for his playmaking ability and slots in nicely on the power play. Overall, Kane is a rock-solid top-six player and is a huge boost to production. However, he is on pace for just 16 goals on the year, but playing with his new team he could see that total rise. With a push for the playoffs, Kane is a perfect fit going forward and gives them more star power.

It is never easy to say goodbye to one of the best players in franchise history. Kane was instrumental in the team’s success and putting Chicago back on the hockey map. The Patrick Kane trade signals a new era of Chicago hockey is underway. But for a team rebuilding and entering a new era, it is huge they capitalized on a return for their future. Chicago is currently in the race for Connor Bedard, so any extra assets were a bonus for them.
