Four CHL Free Agents Getting Looks

Rumour: Jeff Marek on Saturday’s Hockey Night in Canada’s Headlines segment said there are four CHL overagers that are getting interest from NHL teams. Players such as Aidan De La Gorgendiere, Logan Dowhaniuk, Evan Vierling and Ivan Ivan are getting looks. The quartet have done well in their overage season in the CHL.

De La Gorgendiere of the Saskatoon Blades has set the all-time WHL points record for a defenceman with 155 career points. He tied Wendel Clark‘s mark of 65 points in season for a blueliner when he was in juniors. Dowhaniuk plays for Moose Jaw and has an edge to his game. The defenceman went to the Arizona Coyotes camp before the start of the season.

Vierling was a former draft pick of the New York Rangers, but didn’t sign. The Barrie Colts player has 95 points this season. Ivan was a sensation at juniors tournaments due to his name. However, his game is worth talking about, too. The Cape Breton Eagles player has 90 points in 64 games.

What it Means

These four players can be signed by any team. They could be a sneaky-good addition for any club that does sign them. Talent can come in from any league and pretty much any age.

There have been plenty of overagers that have made a splash in the game. Sometimes it’s an unconventional route, but these four seem very talented and should get a shot.
