Horvat will turn 28 soon and he’s one of the lucky players that will enter his prime as an unrestricted free agent. The London, Ontario native said that the Islanders were a place that he may have considered had he got to the free agent market. Horvat has already equalled his career-high of 31 goals that he had last season.
What a Bo Horvat Extension Means
The Isles don’t want to deal with the drama of having a big-ticket player walk away for nothing. New York is hanging onto the last Stanley Cup Playoff spot, but getting Horvat might be what’s needed to secure its spot.
Horvat currently makes $4.125 million per season and will likely be asking for a decent raise. The cap only going up $1 million will make the salary cap go up to $83.5 million. This will force teams to shed players they normally would want to keep. However, Lamoriello is going to make sure Horvat is a long-term piece for the Islanders.
