Welcome back to another day of NHL Predictions. Each day, Last Word on Hockey takes a look at the games that are happening and gives our predictions for each one, breaking down head-to-head and other factors that may play in. We also have a featured game of the day, which is considered must-watch TV. Today’s featured game is between the Washington Capitals and the Toronto Maple Leafs

NHL Predictions: Washington Capitals vs Toronto Maple Leafs

Boston Bruins vs Carolina Hurricanes

Head to Head: Bruins 1-0 Hurricanes

Today’s first game on our NHL Predictions is a heavyweight title fight. The Boston Bruins wrap up their road trip as they take on the Carolina Hurricanes. Both teams sit in the top five in the league in being the best. Boston enters tonight in the second of a back-to-back set of games.

Each team has a special blend of forwards and depth on defence. In fact, these are two teams who are some of the best defensive teams in the league. A true test will come between the pipes.

One X Factor is special teams play. Boston enters play with the fourth-ranked powerplay unit, while also having the best penalty kill. However, Carolina has struggled on the power play and getting into penalty trouble could cost them.

Prediction: Bruins defeat Hurricanes 3-2

Washington Capitals vs Toronto Maple Leafs

Head to Head: Capitals 0-0 Maple Leafs

Tonight’s featured game on the NHL Predictions is an Eastern Conference showdown. The Washington Capitals take on the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Leafs are down badly in the injury department. Superstar centre Auston Matthews is out for the next three weeks, and Matt Murray is now out for the club. Tough blow for the team chasing Boston in the standings. But it will be Ilya Samsonov as he gets to face his former team.

Even with Matthews out, the Leafs still have Mitch Marner, William Nylander, and John Tavares. The goals in this game could come in bunches as the Capitals have health again and are led by Alex Ovechkin.

Prediction: Washington defeats Maple Leafs 4-2
