Canada Favoured To Win 2022 World Junior Championships

Entering this tournament every year, there are five teams that have a legit shot to win this thing. Canada, USA, Russia, Sweden, and Finland. It is no surprise that Team Canada is favoured to win the tournament at +225.

This is not an overwhelming favourite as Canada was last year. There are still some questioned marks surrounding Canada especially in between the pipes. However, Canada is looking for redemption after falling short to Team USA in last year’s gold medal game. Canada is led by Cole Perfetti, Owen Power, and Shane Wright. Canada has been a dominant force at this tournament for a long time, but the rest of the world is catching up. Team Canada has still put together a good team, but an odds on favourite to win, not anymore.

Other Smart Odds

As mentioned before there are other teams that can win this thing. Let’s take a look at those.

USA +479

A good value is Team USA. They are the defending gold medalists entering the tournament. However, history is against them when it comes to winning back-to-back gold medals. Team USA either wins bronze or fails to make the medal round the following year after winning gold. Even though they are the second-favourites at +479 to win the tournament not a lot of people expect much from them and that is when Team USA is at its best. Team USA is led by Matty Berniers, Jake Sanderson, Brett Berard, Brock Faber, and Drew Commesso. They are definitely in a tough group, but Team USA has good value once the medal round comes.

Russia +598

Entering the 2022 World Junior Championship, Russia is looking to end an 11-year gold medal drought. Russia has the best goaltender in the tournament in Yaroslav Askarov. Russia is coming in at good value at +598 after playing in the bronze medal game and losing to Finland last year. The Russians are always tough at this tournament. The big thing for Russia is getting through round-robin play to give themselves a chance in the medal round. It will not be easy especially in the group they are in.

Group A Winner

Just like earlier Canada is favoured to win their Group at -127. The toughest team for Canada is Finland as they always play Canada tough. So does Czechia, but Canada just has too much firepower. This is the lock of all locks.

Group B Winner

Group B is the “Group of Death” with Sweden, Russia, and the USA all in it. You can throw Switzerland into the mix as well as each year they continue to improve in this tournament. Team USA at +220 is the favourite to win the group. with Russia right behind them at +300 and Sweden at +375. Team USA will be in tough to win the group as they finish the tournament with Sweden and Russia on New Year’s Eve. With Sweden’s 54-game round-robin winning streak over, they will look to start a new and try to finally capture the gold medal for the first time since 2012.
