An NHL Christmas for 2020-21

An NHL Christmas for 2020-21

(To the tune of Rudolph the Reindeer)

We’ve had troubles and bubbles and four million in spending,
There was Copp out and opt-outs and prospect lending.
Did you wonder when
We’d ever have hockey again?

They got it together!
NHL and PA!
We can’t go see it
Live, but that’s okay!

Several other sports leagues
Have fumbled their return
But the NHL is late enough
To watch and (maybe) learn!

Camps will start on New Year’s Eve
For teams who missed July
“Players, we’ll protect you well,
Now hit the ice and give ’em hell!”

Oh, how the fans will love it
If the Juniors go off right
It’s a preview, but it’ll do
‘Til the pros come in sight!

The OHL and the Dub
The QMJHL
The ECHL and the A
Will soon start up as well.

Verse Two

With all the leagues in Europe
Already underway
We didn’t think we’d see them
In North America today.

Now we’ve got some new vaccines
We’ll be in rinks real soon
After a bit more time indoors,
To hear it live “He shoots, HE SCORES!”

Then how we’ll cheer out players
And even referees.
We will leave this NHL Christmas
In the bin of history!

Enjoy the holidays, folks! All the best to you and yours from us and ours, together or apart. As ever, we’ll be here for breaking news and analysis in the NHL with stories on other leagues in North America and Europe as they come up. With the news of the NHL restarting in – fingers crossed – January, we’re more than ready to get back to a regular schedule. Here’s to hoping the NHL continues to pop gift in our stockings with free agent signings and other news!

Be kind, be calm, be safe, and we’ll see you at the rink.

About Erin Butler

Born in Richmond, Erin Butler moved to the Gulf Islands early on but made sure to pack their Vancouver Canucks fandom with them on the way out of town. Decades later, the fandom is unabated even as the perspective widened. A little more jaded about ownership, but loving the bizarro-world fandom online.
