MK Dons have bolstered their attack with the signing of Osman Sow on a free transfer.
The Dons’ new number nine was most recently with Henan Jianye of the Chinese Super League. However, he has signed a two-year deal at stadium.mk to compete with Kieran Agard, Robbie Muirhead and Ryan Seager in the striker positions.
Since the transfer was announced earlier this evening, manager Robbie Neilson has revealed that he tried to sign the Swedish forward in January. He also added “He’s been the number one target all along for us. We’ve worked really hard on it and it’s taken a little bit of time to get over the line but we’re delighted it’s now done.”
Osman Sow has gained plenty of experience in his career. The 27-year old has played in Sweden, Moldova, United Arab Emirates and most recently, China. However, he enjoyed his best spell under current Dons manager, Neilson. The Swede played under Neilson at Hearts between 2014 and 2016. Perhaps his most prolific spell, he scored 23 goals in 52 games for the Scottish side. His best spell before this came at his first club in Sweden, AFC Eskilstuna. Here, he scored 12 times in 25 games.
While he hasn’t been as successful at other clubs, including a brief stint at Crystal Palace where he failed to make an appearance, Robbie Neilson seems to have a lot of trust in his new signing. Giving him the responsibility of being number nine is one thing, but working so hard to bring him in is another. Sow seems keen to repay that trust, too. Speaking to the MK Dons website, he said “I’m very happy and I’m looking forward to getting going. Robbie spoke very highly of the club and it’s a big opportunity for me to come back to England, which is the best country in the world to play football in. I like to create chances and I like to score goals but, for me, the big thing is winning football games – I want to win and that’s what makes me sleep well at night!”
Other Additions?
Robbie Neilson was keen to stress that he is working to bring more signings in. Speaking to the MK Dons website, he said “We need a little bit more up front. We’re still looking to recruit a number 10 and a wide player as well. We’re still looking at left-back. We’ve still got a lot to do but we’re pleased to now have Osman in gives everyone a lift.”
After a slow start in the league, new additions seem necessary. The loaning of left-back Ben Tilney to National League North side Brackley Town means the Dons are stretched defensively. The posibility of a new number 10 should help to increase the creativity up front, too.
Osman Sow is a helpful addition, though. He brings something different to the front line which should help the Dons on their way to a high league finish.
