Leicester Team News and Predicted Lineup vs Stoke City for February 21

The past few weeks have once again been chaotic for Leicester City supporters. More defeats, a new manager, and now appealing the six-point deduction that sent them into the relegation zone. Gary Rowett is currently at the helm and has the huge task of keeping them in the Championship. The club last fell to League One back in 2008, which similarly saw City lose three times to Southampton, a parallel recently made clear after the two defeats last week. Regardless of the issues, the Foxes are back in league action, so here is the Leicester Predicted Lineup as they take on Stoke City.

How Leicester City Have Lined Up Recently

In Andy King’s final game in charge, plenty of changes were made. Firstly, Jakub Stolarczyk returned in between the sticks after being usurped by Asmir Begovic. Meanwhile, at centre-back, Ben Nelson and Caleb Okoli kept their places in the starting eleven despite conceding four goals in just over half an hour in midweek. In the full-back roles, much-needed change came with both Luke Thomas and Ricardo Pereira sidelined. This led to Victor Kristiansen and Bade Aluko starting their second and third games of the season, respectively.

In midfield, teenager Louis Page accommodated Oliver Skipp, as Jordan James remains out. Skipp’s bicycle kick to level up proceedings was a moment of pure quality and handed City a great opportunity to advance in the cup. Just in front of them was Manchester City loanee Divine Mukasa. The teenager has started this stint with the Foxes strongly, with two decent performances against the Saints.

With league action being the focus going forward, it’s no surprise that there were more changes to the front three. Jeremy Monga came in for Abdul Fatawu, as the Ghanian has started all 32 of the club’s Championship matches this season. Stephy Mavdidi kept his place on the left, despite his goal drought extending to seven games. Jordan Ayew then capped off the eleven, whilst Patson Daka returned to the bench after a great performance in midweek.

Leicester City’s Recent Form And Tactics

Following Tuesday night’s capitulation, the Leicester players had to play for pride. Advancing in the FA Cup wasn’t the be-all and end-all due to the relegation battle they are now engulfed in. However, a good performance from the players given fewer minutes could have helped momentum and given new manager Gary Rowett a selection headache. However, once again, it wasn’t good enough.

After a better first 45 minutes from City, another mistake plagued their chances of winning. Caleb Okoli gave away a penalty, which was dispatched by Cyle Larin to make it 1-o. This isn’t Okoli’s first questionable error in recent weeks, as he was also sent off after 15 minutes against Charlton for a needless foul. Despite being behind, Leicester reacted well and even found an equaliser through Skipp. The aforementioned bicycle kick stunned supporters and players alike as it bounced past the Saints’ keeper. It was Skipp’s second goal of the campaign, which now makes it the most goals he has scored in a campaign.

Both sides were plugging away for a winner, with Southampton coming closest through Cameron Archer. Stolarczyk parried the ball into the danger zone, but luckily for him, Archer’s follow-up was just wide. With no winner in normal time, the game quickly passed into extra time, where Tonda Eckert’s side found a second goal. The threatening cross wasn’t dealt with initially, and found James Bree at the back post, who headed it past Stolarczyk to help his side advance in the cup. It’s fair to say City’s number one could have done better with the situation. After recently falling out of favour, he needed a great performance to turn the tide.

Heading into the trip to Staffordshire, absences are an expectation. The likes of Harry Souttar, Aaron Ramsey, Hamza Chouhdury and Jannik Vestergaard are out for sustained periods. Bobby De Cordova Ried also isn’t available as he is still serving a three-game ban for violent conduct, which was handed against Birmingham. In addition, Jamaal Lacelles is also set to be out for a couple of weeks, which isn’t ideal after he recently made the move from Newcastle United.
