Experienced Striker Named as the One Nottingham Forest ‘Are Most Keen On’

Nottingham Forest have endured a largely frustrating season thus far, with the manager’s hot seat being somewhat of a merry-go-round this season, with Nuno Espirito Santo being replaced by Ange Postecoglou. Ange was then replaced by the current boss, Sean Dyche, who has stabilised the situation to a point, but some vital improvements are still needed. It is being reported bythe Athletic that Mehdi Taremi is the one striker Nottingham Forest “are most keen on.”

Dyche has undoubtedly brought a sense of stability to the City Ground after the managerial changes earlier in the season.

Forest’s recent win away at West Ham felt huge for the “Tricky Trees.” They were knocked out of the FA Cup on penalties to Wrexham, but Premier League survival will be the only priority from now until the end of the season. A battling loss at home to Manchester City and a dominating home win against Spurs before Christmas will have given Forest a timely boost.

Chris Wood enjoyed a memorable season for Forest last season, scoring 20 goals. However, a persistent knee injury has kept him sidelined this season. The club have lacked goals and, according to the Athletic, has compiled a short list of strikers. Despite Taremi being the one “who Forest are nostalgic keen on,” they are also monitoring Jorgen Strand Larsen from Wolverhampton Wanderers, who has some similarities to Wood. Youssef En-Nesyri, a 28-year-old Moroccan international, currently at Fenerbache, is also on Forest’s list. 28-year-old Ukrainian international, Artem Dovbyk, is also being monitored, but is currently out injured.

It remains to be seen if Forest will get Taremi or another name off their shortlist, but it’s imperative they relieve some pressure on Igor Jesus, who has started the last seven games in all competitions.

The only fit back up at the moment is Taiwo Awoniyi, after the disappointing Arnaud Kalimuendo departed the City Ground on loan, moving to Frankfurt with a view to a permanent move. He came with an impressive goal record at Rennes, but failed to make an impact at Forest, and his departure is not a surprise.

Their number one target, Taremi, is vastly experienced, having enjoyed an impressive spell in Portugal with Rio Ave and FC Porto. The Iranian international is a great target man, adept at holding defenders off, while also being known as an impressive goalscorer. Despite a disappointing spell in Serie A with Inter Milan, Taremi has shown this season for Olympiacos, who are also owned by Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, that he still has an eye for goal and would be a valuable addition for Dyche.
