With the transfer window shutting in just a few days, Leicester City’s business continues. The club’s much-needed rebuild has taken place throughout the summer, as the attention now turns to youthful talents. As a result, players either on high wages or who can depart for profit, have made way to help the ongoing battle with PSR. Therefore, could Wout Faes be the next name to exit amid options elsewhere?

Wout Faes: On The Move?
As reported by Florian Plettenberg, VFL Wolfsburg are the latest club to explore a deal for Faes. They join two other clubs in the race for the Belgian International, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Besiktas have already approached.

Despite the advancements, a decision has yet to be made. Talks are ongoing between the German side and City, as the sale of Faes could help open up space for new arrivals. In addition, with the World Cup next year, playing regularly at the top level will be important for the defender if he wants to remain in the national team setup.
Although four games have taken place and the transfer window is almost over, City continue to offload players. Like Faes, Bilal El Khannouss and Victor Kristiansen could still leave in the final few days, as interest from sides across Europe is clear. Replacements are also now a priority because Mousa Sylla and Jonas Omlin are the latest profiles for Marti Cifuentes’ side to target.
How Does This Affect Leicester City?
Whilst Faes does have his strengths, a move away seems to be the right option. As for the player, he is yet to start in the league this season, with Caleb Okoli and Jannik Vestergaard the preferred centre-back partnership. This is despite Faes performing well off the bench, as he has tallied a goal and an assist already.

Meanwhile, for the Foxes, a sale would help their situation, especially considering he isn’t a key player. Academy graduate Ben Nelson and Australian international Harry Souttar are the other options outside of the names mentioned, and both had strong seasons at this level last year. Moreover, if the club can identify a new centre-back that suits Marti Cifuentes’ system, then Faes leaving would be even more beneficial.
As for Wolfsburg, they would gain a profile with great experience and qualities. However, his attitude could become problematic. Former City winger Matt Piper touched upon this last time in the Championship, as he described his performance away at Plymouth as showing “complacency” and “arrogance”. Furthermore, this season he has already shown some of these qualities after cupping his ears at the fans against Sheffield Wednesday.
