Premier League Side ‘Identify’ Leicester City Defender With European Experience As Depth Option for European Campaign

Throughout the summer, Leicester City’s commitment to a rebuild has been evident. Important players such as Mads Hermansen, Wilfred Ndidi and James Justin have already made way, but another name could follow suit. Since moving to Leicester back in 2023, Victor Kristiansen has failed to settle, especially considering his loan move to Bologna and ousting by Luke Thomas last season. Therefore, the Dane could be the next City player out the door.

Victor Kristiansen: On The Move?

As reported by David Ornstein, Nottingham Forest have “identified” Kristiansen as an option. After the Foxes brought an end to the club’s hopes of Champions League football, they are preparing for their Europa League campaign. Nuno Espirito’s side have been “busy” lately as they have confirmed the arrivals of Omari Hutchinson, Arnaud Kalimuendo and James McAtee. However, unlike the others who are major additions, Kristiansen is likely to be “competition” for Welsh international Neco Williams.

Kristiansen isn’t the only left-back that Forest managed to identify, as Club Brugge’s Joaquin Seys is also an option. Having helped Bologna to Champions League football under Thiago Motta, and featuring in the competition just a few years ago, it makes sense that they have considered the Dane. During his time at FC København, the defender featured eight times in the Champions League and 11 times in the Conference League.

If Forest are to advance in their interest, then Kristiansen will join the likes of Chris Wood, Wes Morgan and others in crossing the divide. It would also mark the Foxes’ sixth departure of the summer, as the mass exodus continues.

How Does This Affect Leicester City

Although the 22-year-old does have a remarkable amount of experience, he has severely lacked in quality. The problem in terms of his profile is the lack of technical ability, which results in him not suiting the system. Most notably, Enzo Maresca let him go out on loan, as he wasn’t good enough to invert into the double pivot alongside Harry Winks, or play as a left centre-back in possession.

Likewise, a similar issue may arise this season as Marti Cifuentes wants his full-backs to be versatile and constantly rotate. He is yet to feature under the Spaniard, having been sidelined due to an injury sustained in training. Thomas is similarly a more traditional full-back, but if Kristiansen makes way, then it could allow Cifuentes to find his own profile. Therefore, if the move does come to fruition, then it’s suitable for all parties.
