Dominic Calvert-Lewin Set to Undergo Medical
David Ornstein has revealed that Leeds have “reached an agreement” with Calvert-Lewin, who is currently a free agent. The striker has spent the last nine years at Everton, but his deal has now expired, and he is looking for a new club. He is set to undergo his medical at Thorp Arch (Leeds United’s training ground) “imminently”.

Ornstein reports that Calvert-Lewin was offered a new contract by the Toffees last summer, at which point he had just one year on his deal remaining. However, they never reached an agreement. Despite once scoring 21 goals in a season for Everton, the 28-year-old’s final years at Goodison Park were unsuccessful, and he spent a lot of time injured. Perhaps a fresh start is what he needs, though he admitted, “This isn’t something I chose lightly”.

Recruitment is always needed for promoted sides, particularly with the last six failing to stay up in the Premier League. Leeds have done this well so far, bringing in a much-needed new goalkeeper, two centre-backs, a left-back, a strong defensive-midfielder, and an experienced Premier League player.

However, despite the incoming of Lukas Nmecha, Leeds desperately need a proper striker. Their top-scorer netted just four goals after February last season, and they all came in the same game. 19 goals in the Championship is nothing special from Joel Piroe, despite winning the golden boot. Calvert-Lewin’s presence up front will do Leeds a world of good alone, let alone his potential to score heaps of goals in their bid to stay up. He will be a “real asset”.
