‘High Level’ Forward Set To Depart Molineux Permanently

Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to part ways with forward Gonçalo Guedes, with Real Sociedad agreeing a permanent deal for the Portuguese international. As confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, the agreement will see Wolves receive an initial £3.4 million fee, with a further £1.7 million in potential add-ons. The move is said to be in its final stages, with only formalities left before completion.

Gonçalo Guedes Agrees Move Away From Wolves

Mixed Spell At Molineux

Guedes arrived at Wolves in the summer of 2022 from Valencia for a fee of £27.5 million and was described as a “high-level footballer“, but struggled to adapt in the Premier League, where he only made limited appearances and was loaned out to Benfica within six months. Guedes was to spend the 2023/24 season on loan at Benfica, but this loan was terminated in January, and he spent the remainder of the season back on loan with Villarreal.

He returned to Wolves for the 24/25 term, and despite flashes of his ability, he was unable to secure a starting role under successive managers, and has reportedly not been included in Vítor Pereira’s current squad planning. The transfer brings an end to a three-year stay in Old Gold, a stay that never really took off with Guedes only making 33 appearances and scoring five goals, and now the door is open for both club and player to move on.

Space For New Additions

Wolves’ sale of Guedes will free up wages, with him being one of the highest earners in the squad at £90,000 a week. The transfer will also free up a senior spot in the squad during the final few weeks of the summer transfer window. Pereira is expected to target reinforcements in the attacking area, with Fábio Silva also heavily linked with a move away from the West Midlands club.

With Real Sociedad hoping for a stronger finish than last season after missing out on Europe, the move offers Guedes the chance to rediscover form in a league he knows well, while Wolves can continue their summer rebuild in pursuit of a balanced and competitive squad.
