Chelsea are showing interest in signing Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres

Man United and Arsenal Target ‘Furious’ Over Broken Promise

Manchester United and Arsenal endured vastly different campaigns, with United suffering their worst in Premier League history, while Arsenal finished second. Looking at both squads, it’s clear they need a lead striker. According to Portuguese news outlet Record, Viktor Gyokeres, a reported target of both clubs, is furious with his current club, Sporting CP.

Manchester United and Arsenal Need a New Striker

Viktor Gyokeres Frustrated With Sporting CP

Looking back at Arsenal’s 2024/25 season, there were crucial moments where they clearly needed a talismanic striker to get closer to eventual Premier League winners Liverpool. Manchester United needed more than a striker, but having a leading figure in attack would have at least given the Old Trafford faithful something to cheer about.

Viktor Gyokeres reportedly attracted interest from Arsenal earlier, while interest from the Red Devils seems more recent, with Sky Sports reporting that “Man Utd have made an initial approach” for the prolific striker.

Gyokeres was in scintillating form last season, scoring 54 goals in all competitions, in just 52 games last season.According to Record, Gyokeres is ‘furious’ that a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ that would allow him to leave the Portuguese champions this summer has been broken. The supposed deal would see the Swedish striker depart Sporting if an offer of £58 million + £8.4m was received.

It appears the Sporting board has other ideas, with the club president Frederico Varandas holding out for £67 million. This increase in price has resulted in the Swede feeling furious with Sporting CP.

What Viktor Gyokeres Would Bring to Man United or Arsenal

Gyokeres is exceptional at disrupting opposition defences, whether running in behind or dropping deep to link up with teammates. He’s also adept at pressing opposition defenders into mistakes. When running with the ball at defenders, he is a massive threat with his pace and directness. The Swedish striker is also a danger with his back to goal, where he has an impressive ability to turn defenders, find space and fire a shot at goal.

All these qualities would be huge assets to Arsenal, Manchester United, or any other potential suitor. Where he ends up remains to be seen, but the prolific forward appears far from happy with his current employer.
