A win for Newcastle United would take them to within three points of Nottingham Forest and provide the perfect tonic for the home fans who suffered the indignity of watching their team lose heavily to Manchester City last weekend. Here’s a Newcastle predicted lineup to see how Eddie Howe might set his team up against an impressive Nottingham Forest side at St James Park.
Newcastle United Predicted Lineup vs Nottingham Forrest
How Newcastle Have Lined up Recently
It was billed as a tight game between two sides that were hoping to boost their chances of Champions League qualification for next season, but the truth was that Manchester City battered Newcastle United last weekend. A first-half hat-trick from Omar Marmoush meant that the game was over by half-time, and the points secured for Pep Guardiola’s men.
The only positive for the Magpies and their travelling supporters was that Nottingham Forest also lost away to Fulham. Given that Forest are six points in front of Newcastle, it’s essential that Howe’s men can bounce back from that defeat and return to winning ways.

While Martin Dubravka remains the first-choice keeper, it’ll be interesting to see who gets the nod as right back. Kieran Trippier started at the Etihad but was subbed at half-time with Tino Livramento taking over. Fabian Schar and Dan Burn yet again were first-choice central defenders with Lewis Hall in his familiar left-back role. Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes weren’t as competitive as they had been in previous weeks in the middle of the park. Making up the three was Joe Willock who was another substituted at half time, Lewis Miley taking his place.

The front three in general have been outstanding all season. When in top form, the combination of Alexander Isak being supported by Jacob Murphy and Anthony Gordon have delivered repeatedly. Do they have enough energy for the business end of the season to deliver the quality required to earn a Champions League spot?
Newcastle Recent Form and Tactics
For every headline that Isak has drawn with his tremendous form for Newcastle this season, Chris Wood has been equally impressive at the City Ground with Forest. Both clubs are unlikely contenders for a Champions League place for next season, a refreshing change. Given that Isak has 17 goals and Wood has 18 this season, goals at both ends look likely.

Newcastle have won three of their previous five in all competitions but the heavy loss to City highlighted their lack of strength in depth. Forest have also won three from their previous five in all competitions and are dangerous away from home. Wins at Manchester United, Brentford, Everton and Wolves recently highlight how comfortable they feel on the road.
Newcastle United Injuries to Consider
Nick Pope remains second choice goalkeeper as Howe has been happy with the level of performance from Dubravka since he was given the opportunity. Joelinton has missed the last three games with a knee injury and the target for the Brazilian is to be fit enough for the Carabao cup final against Liverpool next month. Harvey Barnes stayed on the bench against City and is likely to see some action for Newcastle towards the end of the game.
