Arsenal are trying their best to keep up in the 2024/25 Premier League title race with Liverpool despite having a string of injury absentees in their squad. Things got even worse as defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has now also announced a new injury setback.
Arsenal Dealt With Takehiro Tomiyasu Injury News
What Happened To Tomiyasu?
The Gunners have confirmed that the Japanese defender has undergone surgery on an issue that he was having with his right knee, which was sustained during the 2024 pre-season campaign. Arsenal claim that Tomiyasu had initially undergone a procedure for the problem in August (2024) and was able to train for a few months, before experiencing more issues with his knee.
The Premier League side have confirmed that the 26-year-old is expected to be back to full fitness after the necessary rehabilitation work towards the end of 2025. Tomiyasu only featured in one single game for Mikel Arteta’s side this season, playing just six minutes in the recent 3-1 win over Southampton. The full-back has released a statement after his knee surgery on his Instagram, where he states: “I’ve had a surgery on my knee few days ago and I’ve already started my rehab to do what I love the most again. It has been the toughest period in my career for sure and it carries on a bit more but I won’t give up. Thank you for your support and see you again.”
Arsenal’s Injury List Keeps Growing
The inclusion of Tomiyasu to the injury list at Arsenal only makes it even more daunting for Arteta. This comes soon after they received a gutting update on Kai Havertz being out for the remainder of the 2024/25 term because of an injury. Gabriel Jesus is also out for the remainder of the campaign because of an injury.

The Gunners are missing winger Gabriel Martinelli, who recently sustained an injury problem as well. They are also without influential winger Bukayo Saka, who is expected to be back before the season ends. Tomiyasu will, however, take quite some time to get back into action for Arsenal because of his injury. The 26-year-old, who has made 84 appearances since joining the club in 2021, is contracted to the Gunners until the end of June, 2026.
